This is from the creators of the Matrix and based on a sci-fi novel. It looks like it could be really interesting, or it could be a huge mess. The future and post apocalyptic timelines look interesting, but it might be too much for one movie. The concept reminds me a lot of Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain.
That was exactly what I was thinking too. The Fountain was extremely hit or miss with some people. I liked it and thought it was an awesome idea for a movie. But I guess some people didn't like how it was all over the place. This looks to be the same exact idea.. Different time periods, different life times, etc.
I actually really liked The Fountain, but I can see how people might have found it confusing. Here's a synopsis of the stories based on the novel. I guess the post apocalyptic portion is the main story in the book, and the others kind of feed into it, creating a huge loop.
This movie looks like the successor to Inception: pretensions of being deep, but largely just a convoluted mess with some nice CGI and star power.
It may just be me but that trailer bored me to tears. Perhaps it was because I could not understand the whole trailer..
Anyone ended up watching this? This movie bombed which is totally strange to me since people went nuts over the trailer. It had a $102 million budget (which seems kind of low for this movie) but didn't even break $30 million in the US. The comparisons to The Fountain were spot on. So I guess this is why alot of people may have been put off by the movie. I thought it was really well done.
I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. The copy circulating on the torrent sites was an awful Russian one, and I was waiting for a proper release. It bombed in theaters, but the word of mouth on it was good and it had good reviews (7.8 on IMDB), so I'm not sure what to believe. I'll watch it at some point and decide for myself.
