Dice, the makers of Battlefield, did an interview with Geforce last week. And I almost missed it. http://www.geforce.com/#/News/articles/battlefield3-interview Finally! A developer with some good sense. And from what I've seen of Battlefield 3, it's smoking everything out there.
Well, they're saying that it's the choices that developers of multiplatform games make that are holding PC gaming back, not consoles themselves. Just to clarify, as this question led to a mess on N4G.
Depends on how you see it, offcourse it aint the consoles themselfs holding pc gaming back, its the developers doing it, cause the consoles are making more cash. Just how you look at it.
Yeah, that's what I mean. Multiplatform games like Metro 2033 and from what I've seen Battlefield 3 look like PC exclusives even though they aren't. DICE is among the best multiplatform developers, especially regarding PC versions. Mirror's Edge (very underrated for it's time visually; IQ was very sharp on PC) and Bad Company 2 looked great and ran well on both the 360 and PS3, and the PC versions looked significantly better yet. Battlefield 3 is one of the most impressive looking games I've ever seen from the early footage.
Crysis 2 is a pretty good example of this. It could have been awesome if the PC had been the lead platform. Instead we got a generic rail shooter with above average, but not mind blowing graphics.
