Framework Modular Laptop

  1. Anybody hear about this thing? It's basically the antithesis of a Macbook.

A completely modular laptop where you can upgrade the motherboard itself along with all the components. You can even pick your own IO via 4 hot swap Thunderbolt4 bays.

I want to support the concept on principal. But it also seems too good to be true. I suspect the 1st gen version will be a major cluster fuck and I'll be the sucker holding the bag.

These are the decisions that keep me up at night.

  2. Neat idea, especially from a repair it yourself standpoint. I wonder if you get tied into their ecosystem.

  3. My worry would be what if the thunderbolt controller fails? That doesn't look to be easily replaceable

  4. Linus likes it [as much as he likes to segway to his sponsor somethingwallet].
