iPhone 8, iPhone X, and iOS 11

  1. I'm kinda confused with this years lineup. They seem to have further split the divide between iPhones, The iPhone8/8+ still look like iPhone6 derivatives. The new iPhone X looks pretty damn good except they seem to have completely removed Touch ID in favor of Face ID which is pretty stupid. Makes using it in non-standard scenarios (driving) annoying.

  2. I agree. if they were going to do this, they should've went with a more conventional naming method like iPhone pro to keep in line with their iPad naming scheme. unless if course, they plan on only having this generation with the iPhone x as the odd one out.

  3. They are basically reselling the iPhone 6 as the iPhone 8 with a new CPU. It has the same fucking 720p display from 3 years ago.... The iPhone X is actually a pretty good upgrade from Apple. It's also blatant Samsung Note knockoff, but without the extra thoughtfullness Samsung puts into the Note line.

Whatever, all 3 will sell like crazy so complaining about it doesn't matter.

  4. Does the processor speed in a phone even matter anymore? Seems like every time I get a new phone with a faster processor the performance feels exactly the same as the last phone did when it was new.

Phones have become a lot like PCs. They're good enough for what most people do with them. I'm at the point where I'll probably only upgrade if my phone breaks.

At least they got rid of the puny 16GB and 32GB models. 64GB is plenty of storage for most people, and that's now the base model.

  6. Is iOS11 buggy or something? I did the update and have been having a lot of problems.

    • My stellar battery life went to total shit, like half a day of charge, shit.
    • Auto lock goes into effect even with GPS on, super fucking annoying.
    • The calculator is basically unusable due to the slow animation, it causes way too many typos.
    • The 'system' storage seems to be variable eating up anywhere from 7-10GB depending on when I check.
    • Erratic behavior with moving apps around the home screen (randomly snap back).

I hope Steve Jobs murderous ghost pays a visit to cupertino.

  7. It made my 6 Plus run like dog shit. I have a 6S and I haven't updated it out of fear the same thing will happen.

Some of the stuff Apple is doing lately is head scratching. Jobs must be rolling over and taking a diarrhea dump in his grave.

  8. Mine is a 6S.... Don't upgrade, it ran like new on ios10.

They basically bricked my phone with the battery drainage.

Apple is getting really obvious with the planned obsolescence. Intentionally making slightly older phones run like ass so you'll be forced to upgrade. And it's not like you have any choice. Who is going to leave their beautiful walled garden for the Android ghetto? Apple knows there are no real alternatives to the iPhone. They know they have us by the nuts.

  10. Got two 8s in today to replace a pair of 6s's and put the 6s models into store.

Will leave them on 10 just in case they ever get used again. The 16GB one is immaculate, the 64GB not so much, God knows what he did with it, even the headphone jack is dented.

Put both 8s onto 11.1 and they seemed to behave OK in the hour or so I had them but I don't use iOS too often so wouldn't know if they displayed any odd symptoms.

  11. It's not planned obsolescence. It's new and innovative software that cant be optimised for ancient 2015 hardware. There's a difference.

  12. I've been looking through the apple subreddit and it looks like there's a few problems but not widespread enough for apple to even recognize. i updated my iPhone 7 plus, my mom's iPhone 7, and my old iPhone 6s plus I gave to my dad and none of them have issues.

  13. The 2 major issues turned out to be user error. I upgraded iOS but didn't upgrade the apps. For whatever reason upgrading the apps fixed the battery drain and navigation auto lock issue. The battery issue was real bad to where I was planning to get an iPhone 8 this weekend. On day 1 it dropped 18% idling overnight compared to 0% last night.

The others are fairly minor annoyances I can live with. I love my headphone jack more than any of them.

  14. I'm surprised Apple Man hasn't appeared to give us one of his fan favorite lectures about how all Apple products are perfect and any issues are user error.
