And Samsung still hasn't released official ICS for my phone yet. 8(

Think a Google Tablet will still make it to I/O tomorrow? Asus is rumored to be the manufacturer of it. Or will it be a Motorola Xoom type of deal where it's a just a reference device.. which would be kind of sad.

It was pretty much confirmed earlier in the year at Mobile World Congress. They put up a big bowl of jelly beans at their area. So it was only a matter of when they'd unveil it officially.

We should start putting bets on the next few releases. I am going with..

Key Lime Pie (Think this is already known?)
Lemon Meringue Pie (Another pie I know but it fits)
Mince Pie (Perhaps they have an English member of staff who wants to get in on the act?)
New York Cheesecake (Breaks the pie trend)

Going to be a lot of pie's in Google's near future if I am right.

  7. Re: Jelly Bean teased before Google I/O 2012 on June 27

that would be funny if they were all back to back pies... all of their statues would look the same.

They should name their OSs after depraved sex acts that don't exist outside of urbandictionary. I'd like to see an OS version called "Cleveland Steamer" or "Hot Carl."

This picture was found in the google play store image directory. It'll probably launch and be available to purchase when google i/o starts.

So it looks like Jelly Bean is mainly a UI smoothness overhaul. They called it Project Butter.. bahhaha.

    and the rest

It'll hit aosp along with ota's for moto xoom, galaxy nexus, and nexus s in mid july.

Nexus 7 tablet is also now official, shipping in mid July as well. Everything rumored was true. 1280x800 on 7" display made by Asus. Tegra 3 processor, front facing camera, 1GB ram, rated at 9hrs of video time for battery.. starts at $199.

There was also a nexus Q device.. it's basically a media streamer that doubles as an amp and powered by android. starts at $299.

Google clearly learned their lesson from the tablet fiasco last year that $200 is the upper limit of what people will pay for something that's not an iPad. Android tablets are finally getting to the point where you can get something with good quality for a reasonable price. Like a lot of people I consider $200 reasonable for the level of functionality offered by a tablet. I don't consider $600 reasonable and I would never buy an iPad. The Nexus 7 looks well designed and it's made by Asus. I may pick one up.

Microsoft is going to be in for a tough lesson with the ARM version of their tablet if they really plan to charge $600. I see a fire sale in their future.

The no-micro sd slot kills me.

  14. Re: Jelly Bean & Nexus Tablet at Google I/O 2012 on June 27

The problem for Google: if you're releasing a lower end device aimed at content consumption, you need an audience that actually wants to pay for content.

  15. Re: Jelly Bean & Nexus Tablet at Google I/O 2012 on June 27

True. I could see this thing being very popular among the hacker and pirate crowd due to the decent specs for a low price. Average Joe Sixpacks who actually buy things will stick to iPads.

  16. Re: Jelly Bean & Nexus Tablet at Google I/O 2012 on June 27

I go on buying sprees... when Google does the super sales on the Play store. I went nuts on the 10 cent one. That said.. I still spend money on regular priced stuff. I even bought the tapatalk app. I just bought the Zombies Run! app today for $8.

You can blame the one grim reapers of the world for being cheap bastards.

  17. Re: Jelly Bean & Nexus Tablet at Google I/O 2012 on June 27

Generally speaking though, Android has underperformed for content purchasing vs. it's market share.

  18. Re: Jelly Bean & Nexus Tablet at Google I/O 2012 on June 27

I'm not disagreeing with that. I've had friends looking to pirate 99 cent apps before. It's quite a sad sight when I see that and the same person goes and buys movie theater popcorn and soda.

At least I'm consistent in my scumbag ways.

  19. Re: Jelly Bean & Nexus Tablet at Google I/O 2012 on June 27

I ain't paying 69p for no android apps, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay if I had an iPhone either.

    @alterego

I disagree that this device is "lower end." It's somewhere between the iPad 2 and New iPad in terms of specs. Stock Android, a quad core nvidia tegra, and 1280x800 IPS screen with Asus as the OEM is hardly low end. I'm pretty sure they're selling these things at a loss to get tablet based Android into the hands of consumers beyond just the Kindle.

Let's put it this way, this is the first tablet I've ever seriously considered buying, because it's the first one I've seen where the specs for the price were what I would consider a good value.
