I've only finished the game once but to me it seemed like the ending was just tacked on and wasn't relative to the rest of the story. In my opinion the killer could have been anyone and it didn't make any difference in the game. I guess that was the point with the multiple endings but it also felt like a weakness. I think if they would have used a single story line the game might have been better.
Hmmm, not sure you have the same level of enthusiasm that AKS brought to the original thread. I thought it was a great and unique experience; storyline was fine for me. Got the largely good ending and that was a decent conclusion. I've not replayed it as I thought a big part of the appeal was how impactful the decisions I made were; doing it to get everything right wouldn't appeal to me.
This game was awesome. The only thing I didn't like was how clueless I was about how well I was doing. For the most part, I thought I made great decisions. Turns out I got the worst ending in every single case... I even managed to kill off the killer mid-story. I didn't know what was going on at the time but my PS3 went black and I heard the disc drive spinning for 30+ seconds locating the FMV to bring him back to life... All in all, it was a very unique experience. However, I had little motivation to try again. I just checked all the other endings on Youtube.
I think the way you couldn't just restart if something went wrong made it for me. There were some points that really made me pause and think; added a lot of tension. Probably one of the most memorable games this generation for me.
If only you could pause and think for the QTE's eh, some of them were annoying although fun. I killed that cop in that junkyard because I missed one.
Ha yeah. I was hoping someone else would bring the awesomeness. It was a good game though. It raised my expectation of what a console game could be like. I just felt bummed about the ending. I might watch the youtube endings to see what I missed out on. I got the detective ending and it just seemed like BS.
I thought that was a great touch, the fact that everything you did had an effect and there were no second chances. If you screwed up, you had to live with it. The fact that you knew you could have done it differently or better. But you had to live with the consequences. Brilliant.
I was actually kidding. I love QTE's. Ever since they were first used them in Shenmue. I doubt this would happen, but I hope there will be a Heavy Rain 2, or non direct sequel using the same style and ideas. It happened when I hoped for a kind of sequel for Fahrenheit and we got Heavy Rain, so I am optimistic it will happen one day.
I don't think Quantic Dream will stray from this type of genre so hopefully their next IP will polish all the rough aspects of Heavy Rain.
Haha. I was the same when I had to pick where I had to go at the end since I chose not to kill the man. I just guessed it and somehow fluked it right. Of course my character made out like I actually knew after I stumbled on the right choice by chance, good on him for doing that.
The lizard challenge was possibly the greatest/worst gaming moment I've ever experienced. I could barely watch. It's a whole lot worse with the Move! Erk!
