  1. Creepy vs dorky. LOL.

  2. Speaking of creepy...

  3. For anyone who doubted that mobile chips would surpass the current console generation graphically in 2012, this pretty much ends the argument: Power VR Series 6 mobile GPU performance has been officially announced. Apple currently uses the previous Power VR GPU generation in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

Which means that the next generation iPad and iPhone will likely have 5 times the graphic performance shown on this chart....

  4. 1) the current console gen is 7 years old

    2) I'm still waiting for my ps2 emulator. Even Sony hasn't made one... though the will soon... 15 years after the fact.

  5. You have to remember how fast mobile technology moves. The original iphone launched in 2007, 2 years AFTER the x360 launched. The ipad 2 launched last year with the powervr sgx543mp2 and had graphics close to that of x360/ps3. Not to mention that the native res is already at 1024x768. With each hardware release each year, it's normal to see 5x-7x performance increase.

I pretty much lost interest in console and pc hardware and have only been following mobile technology the last few years. Especially now that Intel has something to prove.

  6. Intel has something to prove?? lol maybe to the consumer. I'm sure there are quite a few hangers-ons out there. Least of which being buisness. I myself don't see much benefit in a tablet... mostly since I don't go out much. I wouldn't mind a ps2 emulator though. Not sure I'd get one unless some PHYSICAL not on-screen control (the touch-toggle thing the xperia has may suffice... but maybe even not than! I'll decide after a quality emulator is developed)

Wonder if DirectX or just Direct Input or plug and play (not sure if their the same... or mutually exclusive) can be ported over so I can use a ps3 or xbox controller. Why don't they put that functionality (for ps3 controllers) into Xperia or PSP?? Maybe a bluetooth controller??

  7. You ever see an x86 processor on a smartphone? I guess you really haven't followed medfield. There were tons of naysayers that didn't believe Intel could do it. This is their first entry into this market and they are now directly competing against ARM in an ARM dominated market for years.

I'm not sure if the iphone/ipad has controller functionality but there are some android devices and tablets that have usb host and/or the right bluetooth connectivity to use a game controller. It was one of the selling points Asus and Nvidia were pushing with the Transformer Prime.

If Apple opens something like this up, that'll seal the deal.

  8. MaxPC just did a peice on mobile phones catching up to consoles.

  9. That isn't the right article. The closest one I could find is this one.

  10. I think we might be headed towards a future where your phone is your main computing device and it just plugs into various docking stations.

The Motorola Atrix is a good example of this idea, but it was half-baked and people weren't ready for it yet.

  11. This is one of the most recent developments: a controller that plugs into the headphone jack on either the iPad or iPhone. Also, iPhone 4S has Bluetooth 4 and iPad 3 should also get it, which means wireless bluetooth controllers are a natural. That standard is low power enough to be legitimate in combination with a portable, and you can connect directly to TV and mirror on-screen content already.

Not saying this particular brand of controller is "it", but that type of connection for wired is about as simple as it gets.

  12. The docking station will probably just be the screen itself....TV or monitor. Your phone or tablet will replace the desktop tower and TV console box.

  13. well... I didn't actually read the article I posted... BUT it lends to the fact that retailers (Sony) are probably unlikely to take huge loses on console hardware early on like they were before. Their feeling the stress of competition and it has affected them. Read a little more into that (insane I know) and you have the mobile phone comparison.

Not to say console gaming is dead, just as much as one would say pc gaming is dead right now! But it's obviously taking a step back.

  14. COnsole manufacturers usually take losses on console hardware and make it up on the games. The 10 year life cycle probably won't mean the PS4 won't come out til 2015, it's just how long they'll continue supporting the PS3, just like the PS2 still had support for the first few years that the PS3 was out.

It'll be interesting to see if Microsoft continue supporting the 360 when they have their new console out or whether they'll drop it straightaway like they did with the original xbox.

Also; linking articles you haven't read? Poor show, man. Poor show.

  15. Picked up a 4S today; my 3G really is creaking. Waiting to set it all up. Great first impressions though; screen is really nice in particular.

  16. Its been pretty solid for me. I have only had it hard lock 2x in 4 months. I was doing almost daily battery pulls before this.

  17. What phone did you have before? And what on earth do you do with your phones?

  18. GalaxyS1. Took alot of abuse though. I smack my phone around like I'm sean connery.

  19. I don't even think phones were invented when he was alive.

I've never had to do a battery pull unless I've been seriously messing about with ROMs or kernels. I think my iPod touch has had more hard resets than my phones.

  20. Fucking hell, I'm still updating stuff - decided to do my old phone, the ipad2 and my new phone. That'll teach me.
