Apple 2015: iOS9 + iPhone6s

  1. But I don't have 2GB of ram.

  2. At least you can jumbo size the phone versions of those apps. The WhatsApp shitheads lock you to one phone/phone number. Then they locked me out of the service altogether for switching phones too much.

  3. yea just found out snapchat doesn't allow multiple logins either.

whatsapp is so strange though. you'd figure at this point where it's normal for someone to own multiple devices that they'd support such a feature. hell, I use Google hangouts merged with google voice mainly and I can answer calls or respond to texts on any desktop/laptop, chrome os, ios, or Android device.

  4. Hmmm, well, whatever space you save with the smaller install space of the OS seems to be taken up by something else…probably the News app that is debuting with iOS 9. Thought I was going to go above 10 GB free on my iPad and it's only 8 GB after install.

  5. I ended up with 1.3 - 1.7GB of extra space after iOS9, depending on the device... haven't noticed any battery problems like some people have complained about.

I've been using an iPhone now for 3 weeks and only miss one feature from Android, the back button. I'm more upset at losing Samsung features like rapid charging, wave on, Mobeam, and a freakin notification light. I wouldn't mind if Samsung dropped Android for their Tizen pet project.

  6. The lack of the dedicated back button is probably the single biggest transition hurdle from Android to Apple. It absolutely drove me nuts when I used to just play around on Apple stuff but now that I use an iPhone ever day I’m used to it. But I still prefer the Android back button.

  7. You guys are using swipes from left/right of the screen though, right?

  8. odd. i haven't had any issues with no back button at all. probably cuz i'm using apps with tablet interface?

supersonic, you may regret moving off the android an ios ecosystem. there is no greener grass mainly cuz of app support. people can survive on ios and android, but once they move off, they'll finally see how bad it is. ios gets full support from google so it has all the same google apps. the next os, windows phone, gets pretty much no google support.

  9. I don't think it's always the same as a back-button. For instance on the IOS yahoo mail app swiping left or right moves between email messages. To go back to the in-box I need to look for the in-box link at the top. With Android the back-button goes from a message to the inbox. Not that big of a deal really but once you've been using the back-button for a few years you miss it.

  10. ^ yep, that is exactly the problem. Apple is on the ball with their stuff but 3rd parties are not. Many 3rd party apps still don't provide an in-software back button. It ends up being more button clicks...

But since they are clearly willing to move away from Steve Job's militant ways, I could see it showing up eventually. It still boggles the mind they refuse to introduce a notification light. I ran into a few threads looking for solutions. It seems whenever someone asks on a idevice/Mac forum they get trolled as if they are crazy. It's one of the most useful hardware features I've ever come across from my Blackberry days.

  11. Right. There is no consistency among IOS APPs but with Android it's always the same.

  12. fixed that for you. it's a basic design feature I've relied on since my first cell phone in 1998.

samsung tried to get away without one in their early galaxy s days. obviously that didn't work out. now Motorola is trying to get away without one with their active display feature since they use amoled displays.

  13. Always the same? I can find complaint pages about the back button consistency fairly easily.

  14. I have used Android non stop for years and I have NEVER come across any instance of the back button doing anything other than going back.

  15. I haven't either but alterego is correct. it's extremely easy to find cases of many people complaining about the back buttons unpredictable behavior. Google has a lot of design guidelines that devs don't follow. hell, Google doesn't even follow them sometimes.

  16. I would bet the complaints are where the back button takes you... It doesn't always take you to the exact previous screen depending on 3rd party app developers. Some shitty apps will dump you back to the home screen, but these are not that abundant.

On iOS it's a daily inconvenience. Take Snapchat for example, I got stuck on a video set that was boring but I can't back out... I had to hit Home, click Snapchat app, then swipe over... all of that is a simple back button away on Android. It's lazier for me to just tap away at the screen and speed through videos I don't like on iOS.

  17. bro, tell me it isn't just me that thinks snapchat's ui is a mess. it looks like a 2009 designed app made by a 16 yr old first time developer

took me a while to get used to navigating it

  18. It's one of the worst apps I've ever used... it took me forever to realize if I release my thumb the video is gone and isn't coming back. I always wrote it off as getting to old to tolerate dramatic changes, but maybe the app is the problem.

  19. interesting. I haven't interacted with videos yet so I'd have to keep that in mind. it's mind boggling how a mess like this got so popular and is now worth multiple billions of dollars

  20. OMG, are you trying to use it as a straight up chat program? That seems like a torturous experience.
