Apple 2016: iOS10 + iPhone7

  1. Thanks. I hope I can get the stoner 2 for 1 as it makes the price more attractive.

Do you need the 128 or is it for resale value? I have been getting the 64GB + free iCloud, but was thinking about dropping down to 32GB + 50GB iCloud. The resale value exceeds my 2 year contract price again.

  2. the jet black version is a special flower that is only available in 128 and 256gb.

I would have bought a 128gb version anyways since I'm sitting above 32gb used on my 64gb 6s plus currently

  3. Yeah it seems totally obvious. Take away the audio jack and then predict people will stop using the audio jack. Two years from now Apple will probably make charts showing a near 100% drop in usage of the audio jack on their new phones and proclaim themselves geniuses for predicting it would happen. I'm still not understanding how removing a feature that millions of people use is an upgrade.

  4. there's really no way to spin it. it is a removed feature any which way you put it. the only upside is that an adapter exists to add the functionality back in.

the galaxy s5 to galaxy s6 was a much bigger disaster IMO but the complaints weren't as loud. the s5 had water resistance, microsd slot, and removable battery. the s6 took away all of that.

  5. Right. From my own perspective I wouldn't keep the adapter on the phone because that would be silly. I'd have to keep it with the headphones and that means one for the nightstand, one for my work bag, one for the office, and maybe one more for whatever else. There is also no way to charge and use a wired headphone at the same time so it kind of obsoletes the idea of using a battery pack for long trips away from power. My wife is a pretty die hard Apple fan but I'm pretty sure she wont be willing to give up a headphone jack. I chose an iPhone 6 for work because of the great finger print reader. It's a lifesaver when you have to always keep the phone locked. If Samsung gets their stuff together and gets a good reader I'll probably switch to Android for my next work phone.

  6. The sales were well below analyst forecasts though, which matters more than complaints. Samsung restored 2/3 features by the next iteration.

I don't see Apple backtracking unless there is a monstrous decline in sales attributed to a headphone jack. That's just unlikely to happen given the user base.

Current-gen Samsung will unlock just as fast if not faster than the iPhone6. I think the 6s might be slightly faster. That one unlocks before the screen even lights up...

  7. It's funny. I was thinking that Beats was probably going to benefit big time from Apples decision to remove the audio jack. I didn't even realize that Apple bought Beats 2 years ago. So they bought the worlds #1 producer of wireless headphones and then turn around and removed the audio jack so people will buy more wireless headphones. I also didn't realize that wired headphones will still be possible if the manufactures pays Apple a licensing fee. So Apple hasn't really eliminated the wired option. They just managed eliminate the worlds oldest open electrical standard (1878) that anyone can use for free and replace it with their own proprietary licensed technology that everyone will have to pay them for. I have to agree that it does take a lot of courage to screw the consumer over so hard. Doesn't the EU usually sue the hell out of Apple for this kind of stuff? I'm guessing the adapter was only included to help prevent lawsuits.

  8. Why the hell would anyone use blue tooth LE unless they are an absolute retard. The sound quality on BLE is atrocious. This is of the most retarded things they have ever done. By removing the standardised socket they are opening the way for people to lose that shitty dongle, give up and just get a pair of horrendous beats headphones with lightning connector.

Now there are multiple super retards on tons of tech forums spouting tons of shit how the new "high bandwidth, digital connection" makes things better. These are the absolute retards who have no idea how audio works. For the convenience of idiots or those mislead by those comments here is how the audio chain works.

Digital Music - Digital to Analogue Convertor - Amplifier - Earphones

Your earphones aren't fucking digital so a digital signal cannot be delivered to your fucking brain you retarded cunts. The digital signal from your MP3 / Spotify has to be converted back to an analogue signal before it reaches your fucking in bred unscientific ears. This conversion up until now has been done in the confines of your phone, and the analogue signal gets transmitted down the 3.5mm jack you plug in.

From the sounds of things, this conversion is still happening within the phone, but apple have decided to put a shitty extra chain within the audio path to relay the sound.

The ONLY way you can make this sound better from a conventional 3.5MM output is to have an outbound DAC. Either in your headphones, or on dongle. These external DACs have existed for years, and could work with a lightning to USB adapter (which you will still need on the majority of proper DACs).

So no this is not innovation, this utter retardation for audio enthusiasts. Blue tooth low energy is maybe suitable for a bit of shitty crappy uncomplicated house music.. but for the rest of us who have a wider gamut of interesting music in our library we'd rather go elsewhere.

And just for the record multiple sources have confirmed that the air pods are just the crappy ear pods with that tech added. I don't think anyone here would disagree to how awful those pods are. An atrocious waste of time..

  9. Check out my current desktop headphones. Gasp! There's an adapter on there! And it was included with the headphones! Sennheiser is taking away the audio jack! Or at least the original one! Internet outrage!

  10. Bluetooth LE is a part of the Bluetooth standard, but it's not used for music streaming. It's mainly used for things like mice and keyboards.

There was nothing preventing anyone from using wireless headphones with earlier iPhone models that had the headphone jack. Most people don't like wireless headphones because they are expensive, sound bad, have poor battery life, and some people suspect they are a cancer risk. People also like to plug their iphones into their cars and into speaker systems using the headphone jack. You can still do it of course, but you will have to carry around an adapter, which is annoying. Forget the adapter and your phone is suddenly not compatible with the vast majority of audio devices on the planet. It would suck shit to forget that adapter on a long trip.

Also if going wireless is so important, where the fuck is the damn wireless charging? Android phones have had that shit for years. My wife has it on her Galaxy S6 Edge and it's so convenient and easy. Come home from work, set your phone down on a pad, and it charges. Nothing to plug in and no cords to worry about on a daily basis. Such a nice feature.

Apple took away a basic feature most everyone uses, and they didn't deliver on the main feature everyone was waiting for. My next phone will be a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a headphone jack and wireless charging. Maybe when Apple decides to stop being stupid and greedy, they will have me back as a customer.

  12. I think apple is holding out on wireless charging since it still has issues with heat. much like I don't see apple making their own version of adaptive fast charging anytime soon since that reaaaaally heats up the phone. I avoided these features on my galaxy note phones. the only time I used quick charge was when I really needed it in a hurry. otherwise, I'd just use one of my non quick charge cables.

unnecessarily killing the life of a battery due to heat is pointless especially in a phone with a non removable battery.

as for people not using wireless headphones, it's mainly due to cost. I'm talking about the clueless consumer here, which are the majority. these people knee-jerk buy these expensive phones and then turn around and buy cheap Chinese knock off cables, chargers, and earbuds without flinching. I can tell you a lot of these people have no clue or care about sound quality. I do use the aux input in my car but it's not even a concern to me as I'll just leave the adapter on the aux cable.

I know it's been a few years since you've been on android so a fair warning that a lot of your old concerns with it are still there as it's just the nature of Android. standby time on it is still complete garbage compared to ios. even with the new doze feature, some google play services will still bug out and drain the phone while it's doing nothing.

  13. Except the Apple watch has wireless charging, so clearly Apple isn't averse to it. They are probably trying to find a way to make it totally proprietary and then price gouge for like $300 for the charging pads.

  14. yea but it doesn't get too hot does it? the battery in that thing is tiny so I can't imagine it requiring too much wattage to charge that battery to heat it up.

  15. Gotta look at the big picture... you can trade up from a iPhone6 -> iPhone7 for almost nothing. If you went with a Samsung phone from that gen (S5/Note4) it'll cost you ~$130 after trade in. That's 13 headphone adapters and a free upgrade to iPhone 8.

  16. Yeah, wireless charging for large devices tends to waste a lot of energy and is usually slower than simply plugging it in. Hard to see Apple rolling that out unless they were able to come up with something that removed those shortcomings vs. wired.

  17. Expensive relative to what? Sound bad relative to what? Poor battery life relative to what? One of the most popular consumer audio items these days are portable wireless speakers/stereos that can be paired with their phones/tablets/laptops, and there's every level of quality and price imaginable now. That's the counterpoint to all the hysteria about removing the headphone jack: consumers are already buying wireless audio items in a big way. They like them. And if removing the jack on the iPhone 7 allows you to squeeze in some extra battery life, some additional camera hardware, and improve the water resistance level…what is the big deal? It's not like it's an arbitrary decision that they made just for the hell of it.

  18. Apple got a €13 billion tax bill to pay, can't afford the R&D on wireless charging.

  19. Good luck to the EU proving that Ireland gave the tax break to Apple because they couldn't compete in the European market without it. That's a requirement of charging them under illegal state-aid.
