Yeah he never said what his budget was. Those 34 inch monitors are in the $600-800 range. 27" 1440p is around $375 now. He could also get one 27 inch and see how he does and then get a second one if it's not enough. I think he's running a really cheap video card, so ultrawide might be a bit much unless he's looking to upgrade. 1440p is pretty easy to drive by today's standards. Like even on that trashy card he could probably run CSGO on highish settings at 1440p. He also never said if he cares about high refresh rate. I'm guessing not and it would drive up the price a bit.
Seems like the pandemic left a huge shortage of furniture lol. Depending on the item I can't get much of anything for 6-12 weeks unless I buy off the shelf. I'm gonna wait for the furniture before buying any electronics.
I would imagine with so many people working from home that Ikea is selling a lot of desks. PC parts have also been in short supply. A lot of stuff is backordered on Amazon.
I ordered a racing desk chair for my son. There must be a slight shortage as the majority of them would take weeks to get here. I ordered the only one that could get here in a week.
Okay, I was zeroing in on this Dell 32" 4K Curved monitor. But I just saw this sale for an LG 43" 4K IPS monitor. The Dell will be $280 to me with coupon the LG $500. I really wanted a curved monitor but the LG kills 2 birds by doubling as a Media PC as well. I was gonna buy and mount a separate TV that I won't have to. Any thoughts?
What do you have for a video card? Are you okay with scaling? Trying to game at native 4K is brutal. You’re also going to end up having to use scaling to make anything readable. 4K kinda sucks as a resolution for PCs. It wouldn’t be my choice but it’s up to you.
I've seen several opinions on 43" monitors. Some people say it's too much screen real-estate for work. That the size makes it inefficient. You'll be moving your neck a lot more with a screen that big. Some people love it. That 32" 4K is a VA panel. 32" 1440p VA panels have weird pixel arrangements that make them below average for text clarity. I'm not sure about 4K. It seems like it wouldn't be an issue with such small pixels but it's worth checking on.
Cool. Thanks for the feedback. I actually was looking to replace a 42" TV from 2007 with the LG monitor/media combo. It's probably as big as a modern 55" TV. But I just setup a quick test and I think it's too big to be a monitor. My neck and eyes hurt already. It seems the sweet spot for gamers is 1440 @ 27" or some 34"/38"/49" ultra-wide variant. But anything targeted to gamers is automatically crazy expensive lol. Is 4K just hype? I kinda assumed it's the new big thing I see some 5k and 6k too but only crazy rich Youtubers. I don't have specs to game in 4K, I was just kinda forward thinking it. I'm replacing a 17" Dell Ultrasharp, after all. I intend to buy my next monitor after retirement.
Skip the gaming monitors and get a professional monitor. I’m guessing your Dell monitor that lasted so long was one of their Ultrasharp professional monitors. 1440p at 27 or 32 inches and 34 inch ultrawide are your best options. It’s going to come down to your budget and preferences. Almost nobody uses 4K on PC. If you doubt this look at the steam hardware survey. 1080p and 1440p are the most popular resolutions. 4K is too hard to drive without expensive bleeding edge video cards and general windows use requires scaling which looks bad in some applications. A big part of why I picked a 32 inch 1440p monitor is because it’s comfortable to use with no scaling. 32 inch 1440p is divisive. I think Bfun liked his up until he started having problems with it. Khaid also had a Samsung one for awhile but I’m not sure if he still does.
the 32" samsung s32d850t i have is regular 16:9 aspect ratio so it's 2560x1440. I also own at 34" acer predator x34 that's ultrawide so it's 3440x1440. if you're mainly doing work and media consumption, get a regular 16:9 monitor. people still don't know how to push their videos properly so you'll still see a lot of letterboxed videos on an ultrawide monitor even though it shouldn't be.
I feel like there is choice overload now... for someone like me randomly showing up to buy a monitor, actually having so many options just makes me disgruntled lol I did some research into what @bfun said. On paper 4k has the best text clarity, but most reviewers are saying it's too small without scaling, like @cmdrmonkey said. Ultrawide screen looks so fucking cool and that's what I'm leaning towards. But I looked at what 16:9 content would look like. I think I'd slowly die on the inside if 1/3 of my screen was black. @khaid Would a 2:35:1 hollywood movie scale full screen? That might be a worthy trade off. What about 3840x1600 has interim in between 2k and 4k?
Maybe just keep things simple and get the Samsung monitor that Khaid is using. It’s a big 1440p monitor that's been around for awhile with a proven track record and good reviews and that’s not terribly expensive and available on Amazon with easy returns. I’ve seen them in person and nearly bought one but went with a BenQ that’s practically the same monitor. Coming from an old 17 inch monitor it’s going to rock your world. I think ultrawides and 4K monitors and scaling and all that nonsense is just going to confuse and upset you. 1440p is 16:9 so it works great with everything. It's also not a very hard resolution to drive. You don't need the latest and greatest video card. It's so easy to drive that I haven't upgraded my video card in four years and still have no problems. You also won't be dealing with scaling. Everything will just be readable with no adjustments. Samsung 32 inch 1440p or NewEgg has it for 25% off but they kinda suck for shipping and returns.
yep 2:35:1 is what you'd be going for. 3440x1440 on a 34" is great on everything else. you can open three windows onto the monitor and have plenty of space on each one. it's cool on games too, but i wouldn't say it's a game changer by any means.
I’m gonna laugh when he pulls an Armadeadn, asking all these questions and then never actually ordering anything
You goddamn bunch of scumbags. I almost bought a $1700 monitor to prove you wrong. I found a 1440p curved with 144hz under $500. But of course it’s out of stock till Oct.
Ok the temporary insanity of spending $1,000+ on a monitor has subsided. I’m probably getting this, any last minute thoughts? https://www.asus.com/us/Monitors/ROG-Strix-XG32VQ/ The only hesitation I have is that it’s apparently 2 years old. Am I missing out on anything by not buying newer stuff?
