Battlefield 3

  1. machinima has a youtube channel set up just for video game trailers. http://www.youtube.com/user/MachinimaTrailer

  2. My video card is fine, but I'm probably going to have to upgrade my CPU, mobo, and RAM. My Core 2 Duo was already stretched to its limits with Bad Company 2.

  3. Which is why I like to buy at the bottom end of the high end.

  4. As do I. For instance, I bought an X800 Pro instead of an X800XT, an 8800GTS instead of an 8800GTX, and a GTX 460 instead of a GTX 480. The cards at the top end of the high end are rarely worth the price premium.

  5. I've been suckered into buying the top end cards before and never really got the value out of them that I thought I would for the prices I paid. I'm still going to go high end but not top-tier; they're out of date way too quickly.

I think when I've got about £1300 set aside I will start looking at parts; I'm fortunate though to already own an awesome case, (MozartTX), and a very nice modular PSU so that leaves me more money to spend on parts. That said, I might pull some of that back and buy a new monitor to compliment it. I'll have to see.

But BF3 is definately floating my boat right now; everything I've seen is just spectacular.

  6. Normally I would as well. I have a GTX 460 like many of you. I just want to treat myself to something really nice after I finish up my final degree (target is July), which will be doubly good because it will put a decent chunk of cash in my pocket for a change so that I can finally afford this stuff.

I'm not buying a $1000 CPU and probably won't go all solid state, either. I'll get very good PSU, RAM, and case, but probably not very top of the line. I'm not messing with water cooling, either. I'm planning to make a gaming rig that is high end but certainly not money-is-no-object crazy expensive. The 6990 is probably the only component that will be absolute top of the line (well, for a few months maybe given the way tech progresses...). This dual card GPU has impressed me enough that I think it's worth the price, especially compared to the similarly priced GTX 590. I could cut some costs and get a 2-card solution, but I figure why not treat myself and avoid the dual/multi-card issues entirely?

  7. If you intend getting a 6990, theres no need to consider any dual gpu solution really.
As an advice btw, if you want a better CPU you should wait till the winter, and get the next X79 platform. But then you wont have one in July... :)

BF3 should hit the shelves (and Steam) in november so, youve got plenty of time.

  8. I think you may have misunderstood what I meant. I'm leaning towards getting a 6990 INSTEAD OF messing with a dual card setup.

Regarding the CPUs, I'm questioning whether I'll see any benefit from one of the upcoming CPUs over an overclocked i7-2600K. My guess is that a i7-2600K and 6990 will be a beastly enough combo to handle all of my needs and more. I'm actually hoping that whatever comes out later this year helps further knock down the price of the 2600K.

  9. Ah okej yes its better yes to get a single 6990 then a dual GPU solution. And ofcourse an 2600k (overclocked or not) would be good enough to handle just everything, especially since most games are still being focused for the current gen of consoles.

  10. Hope you have a nice monitor to go with that.

  11. or a nice couple of monitors heheh

  12. Am currently on a 30'' 2560x1600, an 6990 or something would be good for BF3.

  13. Not yet. Right now I'm limited to 1080p. One thing at a time. I'm a patient builder.

  14. I don't see the point of such a high resolution screen. You're just going to have to keep buying bleeding edge video cards to be able to keep up with current games.

  15. I prefer to play through my TV in my home theater setup. I'd prefer to upgrade my TV when higher resolutions are implemented rather than buy monitors. I'm not sure when that will be, though.

  16. Some more information about BF3 in Stockholm.

  17. Battlefield 3 will rule! Over & Out

  18. I noticed they merged all 3 fault line trailers together to make one bad ass 12min trailer

    Plus a new tank video:

    and mp gameplay:

  19. The game looks great but I'm mostly interested in the multiplayer which I haven't seen too much of yet.
