The beta runs smoothly on my PC on high at 1680x1050. So no worries if you have older hardware or you're still on a dual core. The engine seems better optimized for PC than BC2. Other than that, this is really coming out in a month? Seems very rough around the edges. You can't even change settings unless you're in a game and alive. And I'm not sure if I like the online server browser. It's kind of strange. Seems like it should be in the game itself. Also the game is pretty similar to BC2 from what I've seen, so if you didn't like BC2 I can't imagine you would like BF3. The beta isn't really selling me on the game tbh. It's very similar to BC2 and very rough. I'll probably just wait for this to get a bunch of patches and get really cheap.
The builds used for the betas aren't necessarily the most current and the versions about to be completed and stamped onto CDs. I think they want to test run large numbers of people on their servers and also give themselves some extra exposure by letting people try it out early. I have noticed some substantial improvements since the Alpha (there were almost no options, and it was very demanding and buggy), but it's still rough and in need of polish (sinking underground really irritates me when it happens), which I think they're doing now. I do share some of your concerns, but I expect it to be significantly more polished than the open beta build.
Have you tried Caspian Border? I've heard it's based on a newer build, and it actually has vehicles, so I'm guessing it gives you a better idea of what the final game will be like. I only see one server running it and I've never been able to get in because it's constantly full.
Getting into ANY server has been difficult at times. I have pretty much always ended up in the Metro level, which is the same level from the Alpha plus improved graphics and more options but minus vehicles from the Alpha.
What is it with guys pretending to be girls online? Does it appeal to the same kinds of guys who like to cross dress? No girls play Battlefield, or any hardcore PC games for that matter. Also, yeah I'm sure it's all those damn Europeans clogging up the servers. Couldn't possibly be that Origin is a new service and EA wasn't prepared for this kind of demand.
An "American" game made by Swedes in Sweden? DICE's headquarters is in a place called Stockholm. That's in the US, right?
To be honest I'm really impressed by how much better this looks and runs than BC2. This was clearly meant for PC while BC2 was a port. It's the little details like trees swaying in the wind, and burning pieces of paper floating to the ground with so much detail that you can see the writing on them. This is definitely one of the better looking games I've played, up there with the original Crysis. I guess my big problem is just with their choice of map. Metro has no vehicles and it's not a very polished map. Perhaps they really are beta testing this map because it seems like an odd choice to try to show off the game.
That's exactly the same map from the Alpha, which diminishes how exciting the Beta has been for me. In the Alpha, it actually had vehicles, making the engineers much, much more important. As is, I'm not sure why anyone would pick them given their extra gear is designed to deal with vehicles.
I know tons of girls who cut their teeth on Halo and now play Portal, Counterstrike, TF2, COD, BC2 and so on. OK maybe not tons but I've heard of 'em lol. Halo is huge with gamer girls for some reason.
There are no "gamer girls." It's a marketing thing companies use to make horny guys think hot girls play games. They don't. But hot girls will pretend to like things for money. They've basically just taken the booth babes thing from the E3 conventions of yesteryear and made it less sexist.
Yeah I knew a few girls that played Halo when I was into that game. Not so many playing Gear of War though. It must be so annoying for them, the constant shit they have to put up with since most guys on the internet are arseholes who think kitchen jokes are either clever or funny, or that the girl hasn't heard it before.
Looks like they got rid of Caspian Border completely last night. Or maybe they just made it so people who don't have access can't view it. Not sure which. It was easy to find passwords, and there was a workaround in Chrome.
lol monkey do you ever get out of your basement? Seriously, Halo is like some weird fem shooter to them. I don't understand what makes that fps stand out (is it the alien AI, is it that 'cute' to hear one of those little things say 'aah run!!' or 'HELP ME! It's a DEMON!!'??) but most girls that I SEE PLAY FIRST HAND prefer to play Halo. I'm sure many of them do it for money (booth babes) or because their boyfriend is doing it though.
It's BC2 with prone and slightly better graphics essentially. After playing the Beta, I'm not sure I understand all of the hype with this one. This went from a "must buy" to a "meh, I'll get it when it's cheap."
