Well, I just had a lovely experience with the worst pest control guy ever. I notified the management at my apartment complex that there was a wasp nest forming and 4 huge wasps on my balcony. The pest control guy who looks like he walked right out of the movie Deliverance comes to my door, I point to where the nest is, and he immediately starts aggressively spraying at it without warning. Of course this shit is blown by the wind right in my face the instant he did it. I ran upstairs to rinse some insecticide called Temprid off of my skin. I don't feel any stinging in my eyes, but I scrubbed my face very thoroughly and changed my clothes. The health risks sound lovely: If on skin: • Take off contaminated clothing. • Rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15 to 20 minutes. • Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice. If in eyes: • Hold eye open and rinse slowly and gently with water for 15 to 20 minutes. • Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye. • Call a poison control center or doctor for treatment advice. If swallowed: • Call a poison control center or doctor immediately for treatment advice. • Have person sip a glass of water if able to swallow. • Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a poison control center or doctor. • Do not give anything to an unconscious person. I'm going to take a shower to make sure I got this vile shit off of me. I honestly feel like strangling this guy right now, so it's probably a good thing that he is gone.
I haven't noticed any ill effects of this stuff. I think I got it all off. I'm definitely going to keep my distance from these pest control guys in the future. I think they are more dangerous than bees or wasps.
A science teacher once told me that the Ph of a wasp and bee sting are exactly opposite, one an acid, the other an alkali. He said that if you got stung in exactly the same place by both they would neutralise each other as a result, anyone want to give it a go, I would love to know if he wad right. I always wondered that if acid is Ph 1-6 (6 numbers) and alkali is 8-14 (7 numbers) doesn't that mean it is better to attack someone with something that is Ph 14 as there is nothing to neutralise it?
I tell you what, if I ever get stung by a wasp I'll make sure and get stung by a bee afterwards if I'm not already dead by than cuz all of his other wasp buddies zeroed in on me.
I don't think it works like that. You can still neutralise it. Add enough acid of any strength and you'll be fine
isn't ph1 and 14 like instant death anyway? If you could nutrilize death I'd be shocked pretty good lol.
No, it's not instant death. If you were splashed, your just receive some burns. @grim. Acids actually go down to 0.0. Hydrochloric acid is ph0 so it all works out fine
Where the fuck did I get the idea the scale was 1-14 then, age is killing my mind. And to think I chose all 3 sciences at A level, how embarrassing. Saying that if I try to watch anything with Brian Cox in these days I start to glaze over when he goes into too much detail, mind isn't what it was. Now I want to get some litmus paper and go around my house dipping it in things to see what colour it goes.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Caltrad-Indicator-Strips-Paper-Litmus/dp/B007WAIBBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342304876&sr=8-1 Now you should report back with the ph levels of lemons, mangos, strawberries, coffee, tea, bleach and saliva. There will be a quiz based on your findings.
Actually, you can get things with a pH of negative numbers and those with numbers higher than 14. Also, they're definitely nothing like instant death, things with a pH of 0 can be very damaging; however particular acids that are significantly weaker, for example Hydrofluoric acid, are FUCKING SCARY compounds. General treatment for getting Hydrofluoric acid on a particular extremity is amputation. And yes, Chi you were very right there; pH is just a measure of the number of hydrogen ions in a solution, so if you add enough hydroxide ions you can always neutralise a solution (or vice-versa).
How the fuck do you guys know this stuff? I learned it in school but quickly forgot it as I had no use for the info.
I did pay close attention at school. It's just that if I don't think about certain things for over ten years they tend to be forgotten.
My brain is a vault of information, if I didn't know something I was never taught it. No not really, but I do have an excelant memory though... there's really not much stuff in there in the first place lol. At least I can claim the excelant memory part
I'm ok then. I'm a follower, not a leader. People give me instructions, I carry them out. That's why I win at games like Skyrim and Fallout so much.
