if you've seen an old Goofy cartoon you'd know exactly how that happens xD

  5. My PC was attacked by malware. Something slipped past Avast!, but I ran Malwarebytes and caught it. I'm running full scans by Avast! and Malwarebytes currently from Save Mode. Even though I think I got everything out of there, Windows doesn't seem to run properly now. Painfully slow loading when it boots up. I'm not sure what it screwed up. I haven't had anything slip through for years, but it got me today.

  6. Malwarebytes is for me one of the best tools out there, it gets things other software just doesn't find. Shame the free version doesn't include a real-time scanner.

  7. The Brazilian bit of the closing ceremony was sooooo dull, won't be watching either of the full ones in 2016! The rest of it was pretty good.

I didn't think I would get into the games as a whole as much as I did but it was a good couple of weeks.

  8. After I'm done scanning would a Restore fix anything if Windows is borked? I'm concerned that whatever the hell was on there many have deleted or altered files and screwed up Windows. It wasn't loading up properly last time it restarted. I'm in Safe Mode doing more scanning as a result.

  9. You may need to back up and reinstall windows. I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but sometimes it's the best option after a serious malware infection.

I've never had much luck getting windows to run well again once it gets raped by malware.

Also, I would probably switch to Microsoft Security Essentials. Avast started pissing me off about a year or so ago because it kept missing things.

  10. I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro. It's boxed all my stuff into a Windows.old file. How does one go about getting my Steam games and whatnot working with my new Windows installation? Do I have to reinstall all that crap as well? My HDD is still almost full, so it seems to have preserved them somewhere.

I switched to Security Essentials. I have Essentials and Malwarebytes as a backup. I don't know what happened to Avast!. I've never had anything major slip through, but after everything was screwed up and I had carried out a boot-time scan with Avast!, which came up completely empty, Malwarebytes picked up the interwebz gremlins that Avast! had missed immediately.

EDIT: 60 important Windows 7 updates pending. Figures.

  11. They'll have Baseball in 2016 that alone makes it all worthwhile.

  12. Car passed its MOT. No idea why but I find it to be such a stressful wait. I guess knowing that they could come out and say it needs hundreds of pounds worth of parts and not being able to argue it worries me.

  13. Have some Marmite to celebrate.

  14. We actually have some in the cupboard but I don't think I will.

  15. Had the worst day ever yesterday. A day from hell. Had a long and shite day at work which I was already in a foul mood. Then was around my mates house and one of they're kids spilt some drink n my brand new laptop keyboard and now it does not work. Luckily my PC keyboard works as a temporary fix.

I did dry it out last night and it worked for a minute but then cut out. I then dried it out all night and it worked for a second but stopped working again.

Anyone know how much it should cost me to get it fixed as using a keyboard is weird. I am hoping not too expensive.

  16. You mean how much will it cost your mate to fix it.

  17. No, for a shop to do it.

  18. It depends on whether they just damaged the keyboard itself or the connection to the keyboard on the motherboard.

A new laptop keyboard is about $10 on ebay. If they destroyed the motherboard, those are hundreds to replace, and in the case of a cheap laptop like that you might be better off just getting a new laptop. In other words, your friend is probably going to be buying you a new laptop.

  19. He means that liability falls into your mate's hands since his kids caused your issue. He should be paying for your troubles.

  20. so how many pounds is a pound? and would they add on that pound to your cars' mass or would they just replace it? how many pounds did you spend on losing pounds can't you just give it away? Is the slogan for your favorite donation 'shed some pounds with us, it's free!' It should be.
