I'm actually quite pleased with how the new site is doing. The truth is that Old PVC was really in a bad way in its last few years. People were leaving left and right and there wasn't much discussion, and most of the discussion that was going on was trolling (eg Gripper and his obnoxious sales statistics and right wing propaganda threads). PVCF3 is really active and lively, and seems like a return to form for PVC. The discussion has turned back to gaming, hardware, and random fun stuff like it was in the old days. In fact, I think it's exactly what the community needed.
Indeed, but we could still do with more members and a few trolls to keep things interesting. This forum is still my first and last webpage view each day even after ten years.
My first 2 computer builds came from the Sharky Extreme recommended builds. I read their hardware reviews but never touched the forums.
Found a few rogue grey hairs on my head, seen a couple in my beard in recent months. Perhaps the writing is on the wall for my lovely dark locks.
Well, you did the right thing. I just went to their forums since it had nothing to do with anything. It was just one big comedic forum. The sharkyextreme forum died fairly quick due to this. They eventually moved the forum somewhere else.
I'm pleased we don't have any Gripper or Alex types trolling up the place here. I think they did drive away some people. There are lots of toilet slaves quietly roaming about, but luckily they are gagged and bound much of the time and don't bother anyone.
I consider this just a decent gaming forum actually, but I like how I can talk about anything I want with fools that might give a damn If you think this is a GREAT gaming forum you really need to get out (and see the others... get out but not out out :x) I mean, we were pretty good with David_South but now the news is just -meh-. That doesn't lessen the brilliance of PVCF however! I do miss some of those sales graphs though. How much DID MW3 really sell? Is WOW still the best seller in MMOs? How about now??
I used to frequent the widescreen gaming forum a few years back. That was when widescreens were considered to be a weird fad and didn't get much support. I always wondered if the forum would survive if widescreen went mainstream. I guess it did. Now they're just a decent gaming forum.
What would you consider great? Gamespot/Gamefaqs? IGN? Those forums are fucking horrendous. Gamespot is literally run by obnoxious 14 year old brats (the same little shits who frequent the forums basically), and I'm amazed that a site with so much money behind it has so many technical problems and such amateurish design for the forums. IGN is full of dudebros and pretty worthless. You won't find any intelligent posting on either forum. Both are full of retards. Somethingawful has a pretty good gaming section with a lot of great posts, but you have to pay to be a member there. Giant Bomb and Escapist are alright I guess. They have some decent posting going on, but I've never found either all that compelling. I guess I just don't feel any sense of community when I visit some of these corporate run mega gaming sites. And it doesn't help that they tend to be full of idiots.
well I sorta quit going to noobtoob.com cuz all the drama but it was what I'd consider great back in the day. It's still pretty darned good to though it's falling apart (take pvc.com the last few years...) and they only got months left to go. But great gaming forum. somethingawful is a ... gaming forum?? Sorry I just know nothing about it, just makes me think of 4tran and clicky internet trash. I'm probly wrong just scared to go there. I might try it if you suggest.
SA has a lot of things, including one of the busiest gaming forums on the web. http://forums.somethingawful.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=44
I've been using a few forums in recent years. Black Ops, Sega, Gears of War etc. But I couldn't tell you anyone's name from any of them. There's just far too many people. The thing I love about this forum is that we're pretty small in numbers by comparison but we're closer for it. We can have (usually) comprehensible discussions without having to trawl through the 50 other discussions going on in the same thread.
My gran died this morning. Just collapsed in the street apparently. She wasn't suffering leading up to it, totally out of the blue. She's the first person that I've known to die, this is all new to me. I'm ok but I'm a little worried about my mum. We went in to ID her and I was up for it but when we got there I realised I couldn't do it. Just wanted to get that off my chest. You can continue the witty banter now.
my first death experience was my friends little cousin who got into a bad car accident which hung around with us all the time back in the day. I know how you feel. it's very strange. sorry for your loss, but be there for your mom as much as possible. Try not to distance yourself.
I've had people die right in front of me. It's not something you ever get used to. Facing the family after it happens is the worst. I admit that I still have to step out to cry sometimes when it happens. That was one of the reasons I hated my ER rotation.
I have seen a few people die when i used to work in nursing homr years ago, but never outside of it. Sorry for your loss, Arma. Had my first ever route canal treatment today and was bricking it all day. It was surprisingly short and not that bad. But this private dentist is raping me for money, so far ive had a checkup and today which has cost me 47 quid now hes told me i need two other fillings.
Sorry to hear the sad news, Arma. I lost my last grandparent in my early twenties - having experience of it never really helped me, I think it's just something you work through. Like khaid said, make sure you're there for your parents as it obviously hits them really hard. It really shook me seeing my dad after my grandfather passed away - he was just so devastated by it. Shitty stuff indeed.
Sorry for your loss dude, yeah I don't have a living grandparent so... I'm pretty shocked to hear that there are those fortunate enough to not have a relative die, I lost a sister 3 years ago, Aunt got diagnosed with Cancer 2 years ago, she survived but her husband took his life (he was pretty bad off and mentally ill not too mention so huge that he had to use a walker at age 45) their daughter shoots up (legally) and I don't blame her. Anyway your still ahead of the game dude!
@ Arma Sorry to hear about that chap. I have been quite 'lucky' in the sense that all 4 of my grandparents died before I was 7 so I never really understood what was going on. One down side is my sister never met a single one of them. During my adult life no one close has died so again I have been very lucky. @ Phisix. You fool, you could have had the root canal, check-up and the fillings done on the NHS and it would have been £48 for the lot!
