I called Comcast to let them know we are moving and they raised my bill 15$. What a load of horse hockey.
I called VM to let them know I was moving but said I wanted to cancel and they tried to offer me loads of discounts! You need to threaten to leave to get any benefits, I have 2 emails since I cancelled last week trying to tempt me to stay with offers. Going to BT once I move, Infinity is available from the 30th March and it offers 40Mbps down and 10Mbps up, with free phone calls for £28/month I see that as a bargain. Seeing as VM still haven't given a planned date of when my area will be getting the upload increased spending any extra money on their 50Mbps service would be false economy I feel, why should I pay for 1.5Mbps upload when others are getting 5Mbps? With no date on the rollout schedule for my area (been in planning since December) I can't see that being resolved any time soon.
Does that deal include any tv package? Not sure it sounds as good if you end up paying more for your TV on top.
No it will be Sky for TV. The equivalent Sky package to what I have at the moment is £24/month and you need to add about £10/month for BT line rental so thats £62/month for Sky TV, unlimited calls and 40/10Mbps internet. At the moment I pay £50/month for VM TV, free evening calls and 10/0.5Mbps internet. So the extra £12/month will get me much faster internet(4x faster download, 20x faster upload) and unlimited calls 24/7. If I increased my VM packages to match so 50/5Mbps (in my case 50/1.5 because upload has not been done in my area) internet and unlimited calls I would be looking at another £22/month going on their standard pricing. I could probably get some discounts but it would end up working out the same. Also the VM superhub which is needed for the 50Mbps package (anything above 30Mbps uses DOCSIS 3.0) is supposed to be a complete pile of crap. VM have released a statement saying they are working on some new firmware which will be out in the next couple of months to resolve it. A lot of people who moved to the 30Mbps package for example are lucky if they get 10Mbps! You are lucky you went to the 20Mbps and got the normal hub otherwise I think you might be suffering the same issues.
I wasn't the one doing the negotiating. I said cancel it and I'll call back but that didn't happen. Hell they offer the same dam speed for $19.99 for 6 months with a new contract. I'm going to cancel when I get home. Mother Bleemers. Pretty sure I wasn't on a promotion price. I think they upped my speed from 16 to 20 and then said it was a promotion which was later followed by this price increase which just happened to pop up during this move. "We're so happy to screw you over, would you like some more"
I'm paying around £40 odd for telephone, 20/2 internets and the biggest TV package (not including movies/sports) - seems like a pretty good deal to me but then my area's internet doesn't seem to have fallen to pieces so it's more attractive.
Thats £43/month :| You can get 20Mbps ADSL over here for £7.50/month, 40Mbps Fibre to street for £20/month through BT and 50Mbps cable for £25.00/month through VM. You guys get royally ripped off! You would have to take the 100Mbps down 10Mbps up package to reach £45/month and if you took a VM phone line with it then it would drop down to £35/month. Also with our big cable company VM you can 'negotiate' your price everytime you contract is up (each year) as Monsly has demonstrated above with his £40/month for his TV, Internet and phone deal.
Around here we play musical providers. The best deals are only for new customers so most people I know switch TV providers every 2 years which is the normal contract length. I used to switch Internet every few years but got lazy and stuck with Comcrap. I think it's time to take another look at DSL. $40 is a good price for Internet. $80 is robbery. Comcast has relabeled themselves as Infinity to try and shake their bad image. Their trucks don't even say Comcast on them anymore.
Crapcast is such a ridiculous ripoff. The only reason I'm with them is because they offer fiber, and the alternative is painfully slow 1.5M DSL. I like how they changed their name due to their horrible reputation, instead of actually improving their pricing and customer service. I pay $120/month for 20M and basic cable with two boxes. It's highway robbery. But what alternative do I have? Satellite is not a serious option for TV in Florida since the weather is so inconsistent. And going back to 1.5M DSL would be almost as bad as going back to dial up at this point.
Qwest has 40mb DSL for $49.99. It's been many years since I've tried DSL. Wonder what the latency is like on that. Is that data being compressed?
Wow, I have been topic happy today. Not that it matters as it gives us all something more to talk about.
Damned cable company sent me a bill this morning for the full period even though I am leaving on the 30th March (period 8th - 8th). I have called them up and cancelled the direct debit as I refuse to pay for the 9 days I am not using the service. Its too much hard work getting money back from these companies afterwards I have found in the past, they demand you pay them on time but when it comes to giving money back they don't rush themselves at all. The chap was actually pretty cool about it which surprised me, he cancelled my DD and the pending payment and said not to pay anything until the correct revised bill arrived at my forwarding address.
PSN is down again. Hate to say it but this never happened to me on LIVE. It's a biggie too. From thinq.co.uk More than a bit gay if you ask me.
That article says unprecedented but I'm sure the PSN has been down for around that time before. LIVE's been down for periods of maintenance before - it's not a unique thing to the PS3.
I can't even do b spec because they wont allow me to remove a driver's online status. There goes my plan of doing a bspec endurance race overnight. I only realised last night that my bspec level is 29 so I can do the endurances. Silly me. Should've been doing them every night for the past week, oh well.
Why is this in the chatroom? From the EU blog, the maintenence is probably due to them getting the Playstation Plus members' online save storage ready for launch tomorrow, on the 10th. Plus there's a new firmware.
B Spec is a huge waste of Mother Earth's resources. I dread to think of the amount of electricity that total non-game has wasted.
