  1. I think alterego is right, pirates are indeed hypocrites in a for-profit niche capitalist market. I didn't realize how much of a profit based business it was until using tehparadox a few years ago. Up-loaders get paid from hosts per download/click, the hosts make their money from ads and traffic (I'm guessing). But basically links would all come up dead on copyright grounds, but it turned out the uploader were ratting each other out to increase the click through rate of their links.

That being said, it was still free if you found a working link. But obviously they don't care about delivering overpriced stuff for the good of the system, as people love to claim. In the end, it comes down to $$$.

  2. people use stuff other than torrents still?

  3. Torrents are a decade past prime. Too slow and you could end up with a C&D.

  4. I still use utorrent.

Post your skyrim video Arma. Be interesting to see what you have done.

  5. torrents are still primetime man, what are you talking about? you going to horrible trackers and/or grabbing non-scene release stuff?

as long as you grab stuff that are freeleech and don't seed it afterwards, you avoid any type of cease and desist letters. i've been on time warner and att and have yet to get one of those in my lifetime.

  6. Eh, it's still too slow for me. With LinkSnappy, I can usually get a 1.2 GB tv show < 8 minutes. I don't have that kind of luck with torrents, unless I'm going to the wrong places?

  7. I use Netflix and it streams in 30 seconds. 8)

  8. Most tv shows are distributed by eztv so you just go straight to the source. The most common mirror is the magnet link so you're guaranteed to get a massive amount of seeders from that. For movies, publichd is the goto tracker now.

  9. hobbytorrent...where people who have much better things to do than make videos of themselves playing a video game go to post their videos of themselves ripping a Blu-ray.

  10. I get around 3 to 3.5 megabytes per second on most torrents, and usually download a 700mb divx rip of a movie in about 3 or 4 minutes. I think you're doing something wrong supersonic. Is your client properly configured? utorrent is slow without the right settings.

Also, use peerblock, forced outgoing encryption, and disconnect as soon as you're finished downloading and you'll never get a cease and desist letter.

For movies use piratebay and for tv shows use eztv.

    Use these settings for utorrent:

    maximum upload rate: 65
    maximum download rate: 0

    global max connections: 1890
maximum number of connected peers: 2329
    number of upload slots: 14

Put in those settings and then restart your computer. Right click on the torrent you're downloading and set bandwidth allocation to high. Assuming it's a scene release that's well seeded, you'll get the maximum download speed of your connection with those settings.

  11. Makes sense. You want to get the worthless content from the talentless Hollywood hacks that you loathe as quickly as possible.

  12. It'll be a while. I've converted th 4 files I've already recorded so now I can work on editing the commentary and actually making the videos. I did a test and it took 30 minutes to render 3 minutes of footage. At 20 minutes a piece it could be a lengthy process.

Plus Revolution just came out for Black Ops 2 today so I'll be using my spare time playing that for the next few days.

  13. Exactly.

  14. I also think it's good to note that you're much better off using an old version of utorrent. it's been bloated throughout the years. I'm still using 2.2.1

  15. I'm also using 2.2.1. The newer versions are extremely bloated.

utorrent has gone the way of a lot of popular software, like winamp back in the late 90s/early 2000s for instance, where it started out lightweight and clean and gradually turned into a bloated piece of crap.

  16. I can see the obvious piracy in downloading a movie. But I don't see anything wrong with tv shows, downloading is my own time-shifting DVR device.

I will try Utorrent tonight. Not sure wtf is on Monday nights that I would want to watch though.

  17. A lot of TV stuff over here is now made available free online through services run by the big stations. BBC, ITV, channel 4 and even 5 have on demand services and catch up services available online and through set top boxes connected to the net. Couldn't live without on demand TV now, seems backwards to think that a 5/6 years ago if you missed and didn't record something that option wasn't there. I used 4oD to watch entire series I hadn't seen before and it is free and legal.

If you pay for Sky (satalite) or Virgin (cable) you can watch premium content online or through the set top box too.

  18. Finally have my Laptop back. The new keyboard is the same as it was before in looks, but the keyboard feels back go front with some buttons.

  19. I'm working with this English guy and his accent is so think I can hardly understand him.

  20. I've never been content addicted enough to care about using torrents etc. To me, it seems like there are more inexpensive non-torrent options than I have the time for anyway.
