  1. Ever since Amazon started streaming movies and tv, me downloading stuff has all but stopped. I'm too lazy to not pay $2 to have it stream immediately. The only time I consider downloading stuff is when I want to see a small piece of a movie, and the clip is not on youtube, like Ang Lee's Hulk!

  2. What's more inexpensive than free?

And the selection on torrent sites is a trillion times better than amazon, netflix, or itunes. You can even get screeners of movies that are still in theaters.

Hollywood just doesn't get it. Until they make a service that has every movie ever available to stream for a low monthly fee, they'll never be able to compete with torrents. It seemed like netflix was headed that way for awhile, but then they neutered the streaming portion of it.

Why pay for something that's inferior to the free option?

The problem as I see it is that movies aren't really as valuable as Hollywood seems to think they are. Most of them aren't worth paying for individually. We've basically gotten to the point with movies that we did back in the late 90s with music where fast connection speeds and better compression technologies rendered CDs obsolete. In this case DVDs, Blurays, and movie theaters have become obsolete. Hollywood just hasn't realized it yet.

  3. They're not competing with torrents. Torrents don't produce a product.

  4. They're competing with torrents as far as distribution is concerned.

  5. Amazon has just about everything except in theaters. At $1-2 its a good deal. They sometimes charge $3-4 but it drops real quick.

  6. Plus they give free ones out too I don't know how often though just thought I'd chime in lol

  7. Because it's completely hassle free. If I tried to use a torrnet site that shit wouldn't work and I'd get pissed off. But then I get my netflix for free so whatever.

I've brought my laptop into work so I can convert a MGS2 video that's nearly 2 hours long from m2ts into MP4. Check out the estimated time remaining.

  8. Do bare in mind that this will be limited to the performance of your laptop, a quicker CPU would cut that time down.

  9. Yeah I know. I really need a new laptop. I keep forgetting how old it is because it's dressed up in windows 7 but I know it's at least 4 years old, at least.

  10. If you are going to be doing a lot of video work why not get a desktop which will give you better performance and be much better value and then keep your laptop for other things like casual browsing?

  11. Torrent downloads are actually a fairly narrow form of distribution when compared to legal entertainment channels (theaters, pay-per-view, cable, network, streaming, downloads, hard copy), and you've previously argued that it requires building your own PC for the TV to achieve the playback quality you want.

  12. Only because of DRM which Hollywood implemented because they can't compete with torrents. If not for cinavia, I wouldn't be building a PC.

  13. The distribution argument never applied to anything other than digital, and that's out of date now in regards to the general public.

  14. This. If you are serious about what you're doing right now, you need to invest in a desktop. mobile cpu's are not the same as the desktop version of the cpu even though they have the same name (core i3/i5/i7). The laptop uses the mobile version of it which is lower power to be battery friendly. You need as much cpu brute force as you can for video editing.

  15. Yeah good point. But I have nowhere to put it. I'd have to buy a desk among other things. I spend all day in front of a pc I don't really want to go home and do the same thing. Once day I'll get a decent pc and from what I've heard never look back.

  16. No you don't.

You have a HDTV yes? Get a PC with HDMI out, plug it into your TV and then get a wireless KB/M combo. Then you can switch to the PC, start it doing an encode and then switch back to your 360/PS3 and play while it is busy.

  17. I've had encodes that will go on for days. Sometimes I'd do them just for fun ^.^

As a video editor I'd think you'd find this to be typical stuff lol

  18. In some cases it's easier to rent a bigger 'flat' than it is to by a large screen monitor, ever seen a price on those 32" LCDs?? and that's considered SMALL for a TV. for the price of a larger screen you might as well move out and rent out a bigger place. Maybe him and phisix can room, they seem to have the same problem lol.

  19. But he's not telling him to get a monitor. He's telling him to use his existing HDTV as a monitor for a desktop.

  20. Haven't we been through this like three or four times now where armadeadn says he wants a gaming PC but it can't be a desktop and he doesn't have enough money for a gaming laptop, and then he just bails on the conversation?
