I dunno, 6 weeks was enough time to forget practically everything I'd ever learnt. I'd imagine 12 would have reduced my brain to mush. America makes much more sense with this factoid!
RANT Just spent another 1 1/2 hours in a meeting regarding compliance. It seems I have at least one a week at the moment. The SRA (solicitor regulation authority) and the Law Society seem to be making being a law firm more about ticking boxes and reading reports than doing any actual legal work. The Partner who is the COLP (compliance officer for legal practice) is estimated to spend at least 35% of his time doing compliance checks rather than any actual fee earning and of course the software to keep on top of it all isn't cheap. I suppose it is good for the clients as everything has to be done by the book or you are shut down but it just means I have to install more system and write more SQL reports every week. God only knows how people sift through their mailboxes when they get in each morning the amount of reports I have the system emailing to them. Think I have one more this week on Wednesday morning, something to look forward to... /RANT
Its actual gotten warm here after nearly 2 months of Arctic winds blowing in from the east. Nice that spring has finally arrived but it probably means my hey fever will start soon.
Thank god too as this weather was starting to piss me off. Dont know what is wrong with me, but I was scared to ring up a potential job today. Damn anxiety.
It can be scary, going for something new. Just think of the factual pros and cons for doing it - maybe make a list if that helps. When I was really stressed in my last job I did that and it helped steer me through it.
They make you WORK on a snow day? So much for the land of the free. On my last snow day, I just stayed indoors, watched The Grey and ate enough bacon sandwiches to sate even superSONIC's meat hunger.
The rules say that if the office is closed for whatever reason and you are capable of teleworking, you need to work. "Capable", being the key word here. Most people don't take their laptops home so they are not capable. I always have my laptop so I get screwed on the deal. I suppose I could leave my laptop at work but that wouldn't feel right.
Or you could say you left it at work. Or a friend's house. Or your power was out. Sooooo many excuses, you crazy fool.
It's been windy as hell here in Oxford all day. I'm talking Whinnie the Pooh and the blustery day windy.
