  1. Now then now then Jimmy.

  2. Took the plunge and updated my creaky old ATI Radeon 4870 512MB in my Mac Pro desktop to a GeForce 970 4GB. It's definitely going to lose some performance due to the older motherboard, but it still appears to be a significant upgrade. My first test was to load a library in Photos that has 15,000+ files and try to manually scroll as quickly as possible. Pretty impressive...you really don't see any unloaded blanks even at ridiculous scroll speeds.

  3. OMG thank you for the first lol of my crappy day. I was expecting benchmark or something but you using your expensive new video card to vigorously scroll though images just made me smile.

  4. I tweaked my system to do the same. 160x160 pixel photos. Everything just flies by

  5. Hmm. That doesn't make me feel happy.

  6. Ridiculous speed is too slow. Which video cards scroll at ludicrous speed?

  7. Don't knock it…it's actually a pretty good test for files that are HD resolution or higher. The Radeon 4870 could run Diablo III without any problems, but lagged pretty badly for loading thumbnails in large photo libraries.

Here's the benchmarks that convinced me to get the card though:

    Radeon 4870 in 2009 Mac Pro ('Heaven' 3D test/Yosemite)
    FPS: 18.3
    Score: 461

    GTX 970 in 2009 Mac Pro ('Heaven' 3D test/Yosemite)
    FPS: 58.9
    Score: 1484

    GTX 970 in i5 Hackintosh ('Heaven' 3D test/Yosemite)
    FPS: 84.4
    Score: 2125

So even though it takes a substantial performance hit from being paired with the older motherboard, it's still a big improvement vs. the 4870, and it also has the added perk of being quieter and lower power than the older/cheaper alternatives. Worth it for $300.

  8. Did it come with codes for the Witcher and Batman?

  9. You should install Windows if haven't already and dual boot. That card will run most games on high or max settings at 1080p and 1440p.

  10. I think it was supposed to come with the Witcher 3 code. I'll have to take another look at what I got.

  11. I've thought about it in the past and blown it off. I might be more motivated to try it at some point with the 970.

  12. I think Nvidia just added Batman: Arkham Knight yesterday so it might not have be included when you purchased.

  13. Deflategate report is out.

    Doh!

  14. Amazon is saying that the code should be emailed within 7-10 business days after the product ships. Seems likely I'll only be getting one for Witcher 3, as the price has gone up by $30 since I ordered it. Coincidence?

  15. All of Spanish football is being suspended for the rest of the Spanish season due to the Government being greedy and wanting more money from TV rights ect. Bad news as the domestic cup final and last three games run in for the league winner between Real and Barca will be buggered.

  16. Robert Kraft is out for blood now. I've never seen him as openly hostile with his public statements. Can't say I blame him, as the NFL has even less evidence of wrongdoing than they did for the Vikings/Panthers, who were caught heating footballs on camera during a game.

    Buh bye, Goodell.

  17. Spain is hard up for cash. Maybe Cristiano Ronaldo can start his MLS career a bit early? LOL.

  18. Ha. I don't know if Goodell will go anywhere. He seems kind of scary powerful. Like he could steal a Senators parking space and nobody would even say anything.

  19. I thought the polling station would be a lot busier this morning by the time I got there around 8:55 but other than myself and my wife there were only 2 other people there so we were in and out.

  20. Sad act. Voting is for chumps. Who did you vote for?
