Will be 5 years old this on the 21st Feb, done 30k miles. Remember I am in south London so most of my driving is stop/start which wears them down more and it is an auto (see south London, stop/start!!) which wears more.

You only get 1-2mm of play before the disks fall out of manufacturers guidelines and they are advisories on the service, I think at 4mm they become failures. To be honest they were advisories as they were lipped but as the pads were being changed and I was already paying for the fitting time I may as well have thrown in the £90 for the disks. No point paying another £80 fitting next year on top of the disks when they would be a year older and advisories again.

All in it came to £390 which was its MOT (annual safety test in the UK and is mandatory), 5 year intermediate service (oil change, filters etc), 2 x new rear brake pads, 2 x new rear brake disks and they cleaned it for free, how nice of them.

I also have my road tax (around £150) and breakdown cover (£79) to come this month. Not a cheap month.

  2. Only 30k and new brakes and rotors on a Toyota? Were they OEM? Can't recall doing OEM Honda/Toyota pads below 60k. Rotors up near 100k. To be fair I don't brake a lot.

  3. Round here you're lucky if you can drive for 20 seconds without stopping or braking.

If i lived in a big open area with huge gaps between junctions I'm sure they would have lasted way longer.

    Yes from the factory.

  4. Got a foot of snow today. Of course I got "randomly selected" to support emergency response so I've been at work for 28 hours now. Sleeping in my car and cubicle was more comfortable than the hotel I got. But have been enjoying the massive stockpiles of food we get on these occasions. I actually woke up at my desk and went to the hotel for continental breakfast lol.

  5. The fractured but whole has been delayed until "before April 2018".

What is going on with this game?

  6. Fuck. Finally got home. I bought this deodorant from the hotel gift shop that made me itch all day. Been scratching my armpits to shreds like a monkey.

  7. I'm still not sure what you do but I suspect it's some kind of corporate henchman thing. Hotel chains probably hire you to go into other hotels, eat copious amounts of food, and then absolutely destroy their shitters.

I think he's an engineer. Or he destroys toilets. It's definitely one of those two things.

  9. Did you get a new monitor?

  10. Me? Fuck no.... I just found out the 17" I thought I had is really a 19". I'm set another decade.

  11. No, Monkey. He was looking at a 32".

  12. Is that good for your eyes?

  13. Nope. Studies show it makes you go blind if you use it to masturbate.

Sort of. I ended up going in a different direction with my purchase. I went with an Asus PG279Q IPS gsync monitor. It was possibly the most beautiful computer display I've ever seen, but I returned it to Amazon because it had stuck pixels and backlight bleed. Others seem to be reporting quality control issues with this monitor. I'm back to using my U2412M for now. Haven't decided if I want to try again with another PG279Q and see if I can get a good one, or maybe get the 32" BenQ VA we talked about.

Or maybe I don't really need a fancy monitor. Supersonic seems quite content with his 15 year old 1024x768 monitor.

  15. I know exactly how you feel. It's such a pain in the ass to order and return a monitor. I thought about ordering a bunch at one time and then having them to compare side by side. Reviews aren't that helpful because some people freak out over things I don't care about and others don't care about things I think are important. In the end, I was mostly satisfied with my choice. I can live with the flaws it has but I don't actively recommend my choice because I don't know how it compares to all the other monitors I never tested.

Yeah monitors and TVs you really need to buy at places that have relatively easy returns like Amazon or Costco. There's so much that can go wrong with a display. Stuck pixels, backlight bleed, pressure spots, arrives broken (I had a TV I bought once that arrived with a completely cracked screen). Or maybe it just doesn't look the way it did in the store, or the color is off, etc.

You also used to have monitors where there would be a panel lottery. The Samsung 226BW I was using previously was one such monitor. It had panels from Samsung, BenQ, or some off brand Chinese manufacturer. The off brand Chinese panels looked horrid. I had to return the monitor multiple times to Best Buy to get one with a decent panel. I kept getting the Chinese ones. And of course this was back in the day when BB had restocking fees.

  17. PewDiePie got rekt by #fakenews. Guess it's a slow week at the WSJ.

  18. I had no idea that drone racing was a thing.

  19. I rate this somewhere between StarFox and Battlebots. Both in awesomeness and difficulty.
