Too many websites block access if you have it on. Also, lately it has been slowing chrome to a crawl and even causes it to crash at times. I ended up disabling it.
Which ad-blocker are you guys using? ABP has a white list option to disable it on sites you want to use with ads. No script on FF will block ad-block detectors.
Just plain adblock. I may need to switch to Adblock Plus, the trace buster buster of adblockers apparently.
Regular Adblock got sold to some unknown entity and started sucking. The internet called for uninstall a few years ago pretty unanimously. ABP was open source last I checked. I post sites that detect on the forum and they usually patch it. Only CBS and Forbes are whitelisted for me. They seem to have full time staff dedicated to Adblocking. They are like trace busting on another level. @khaid I've heard about unblock origin but haven't installed it. Can you get to CBS or Forbes with it?
@supersonic you're having the same autocorrect issues as me. stupid ublock word. I dont normally go to either of those sites and I only brought my iPad with me to Florida so I cant give you a yes or no to that question.
ublock origin seems to work well. I guess it's a trace buster buster buster Not sure what was up with vanilla Adblock lately. Slowed chrome to crawl. Also was causing horrible crashing that would not only crash chrome, but make it so my PC needed a restart. Like it had a memory leak or something. News sites can detect vanilla adblock. But the other big issue I was having is that it's useless at blocking ads on porn and torrent sites. You end up playing whack a mole just like you would if adblock was off. And those are the really malicious ads that need to be blocked the most. I totally missed that Adblock had sold out to a mysterious entity (probably an ad firm) a few years ago. Just noticed that it was sucking and becoming more and more useless.
Since we are talking about add-ons, anyone use Grammarly? I thought it was awesome at first but then it it went wonkers on me.
I came across this video in an old documentary. It's funny to think Bill Gates thought MAC software was the future of Microsoft. I guess at the time Lotus was dominating the PC.
Nah, he was pulling a long con on Jobs so he could get all the Xerox loot first. Edit: finally found a good quality link!
I found out on Wednesday that I had been signed up for a training seminar in Washington DC. And that it was a week long, 9 hours day, and my plane leaves Sunday morning. Fine. I would have liked some notice, but whatever. I'll roll with it. Thursday - We find out that my kids' school has a stomach virus going around. Thursday night - My daughter vomits hourly for the entire night. Friday morning - we decide to quarantine me to try to keep me from getting sick. Friday night - my son starts vomiting. Daughter transitions to the shits. I have to tell them I can be near them. Daughter gives look of betrayal. Saturday Afternoon - Daughter is dehydrated. Son has moved to the shits. Wife falls to the sickness. Mother in law is here now to keep me away from all of them. I stock the house with easy foods and Pedialyte. Saturday night - all packed up, hiding in my room, trying to distract myself from the feeling of impending doom that is about to fall on me. Thank god its a direct flight. Hopefully I have escaped the bug, but it is super contagious and it will be a miracle if I make it out alive. I am not a religious person, but if any of you are, I could use some of your good magic sent my way.
https://neopvc.com/threads/airborne-vitamin-c-tablets.1138/ I've been megadosing on airborne and cheap substitutes this week. I've got sick people around me all day at work and then more at home. So far I'm ok beyond the occasional sniffle/cough/sneeze.
Getting debilitating diarrhea cramps right before a flight is one of my fears. I try to keep some chew-able pepto in my bag. I also travel with some Vicodin because kidney stones are another fear of mine and sudden onset kidney stone pain makes debilitating diarrhea cramps seem like a pleasant stroll through the park.
Those Xerox engineers are probably still pissed off about it. They were begging their bosses not to let those guys look at their stuff.
So in total darkness I drove past a really bright OLED billboard with a trippy Imagine Dragons Believer image on the screen. Once I past it and drove back into darkness my vision totally malfunctioned and I was seeing like speckled amounts of colors (mostly purple and green) from the billboard. I thought I was having epilepsy or something. It's hard to explain with words, my vision was like a partially busted LCD monitor. I think I narrowed it down to my left eye but couldn't shake the problem. After like 15 minutes I pulled into a Mickey D's to see if coffee would help. But the sheer bright (white) lights of McDonald's parking lot and drive-thru menus kicked my vision back to normal. Not sure if I'm just getting old or something fucked up happened. Could be due to going from darkness to brightness then back to darkness at 70 mph. This is kinda what it felt like but on a much smaller % of my view..
That happens to me sometimes. Just the other day I was in traffic and had some tail lights leave a lingering double image in my eye. It took me a while to even figure out what was causing it. It'd go away when I blinked but then come back. No other lights were an issue. Maybe it was LED tail lights which are more like laser beams than glow. Anyway I really need to get an eye checkup. It's been about 15 years since I had one.
