What is your estimate regarding the price of that thing? I'm not sure I'd pay a grand or more for a CPU even if I could afford it considering how powerful the OC'ed 2600K-i7 are at $300. I'm quite willing to spend money for nice things, but I need to feel like purchases are justified. But I admit that I'm curious about the X79 nonetheless.
Its the successor to the mighty X58 platform (still being the fastest with the 980X). An 2600k system would be nowhere near the performance of an X79 system, but so will be the price... Guess it will be same priced as the X58 was in '08, very expensive boards and CPU's (350$ for a mainboard could be about right, and about the same or higher for the lowest end range of CPU's for that platform). Intel calls it the 'Extreme platform'.
BTW, it seems like AMD is smoking nVidia on the high end. The roughly $1000 "TriFire" 6990 + 6970 combo crushes the similarly priced GTX 580 SLI. Also, the 6990 outperforms nVidia's dual GPU card, the GTX 580. It seemed like nVidia was in charge when the GTX 460 1GB (my current card), but lately AMD has really impressed me.
No, I'm not implying that the 2600K-i7 will be close in power to the X79. I'm saying what is going to use that massive amount of power? I'm sure the benchmarks will be lovely, but I'd want to see it provide actual functional benefits if I'm going to spend big money on it.

I finished work on the 20th and I'm back on the 3rd of May. Nice to have 12 days off especially when the weather's so damn beautiful.
I did it as soon as I logged on. That was a sneaky way to sell things too. That said, I am starting to get annoying with these people now. It's a very lush day today, shame I am staying though as I am recovering from two days of drinking. I like the 3rd of may, it is two days until I get proper internet!
My brother's been round for the last couple of days and he's always on facebook. Since the playstation notwork has been down I've started a new character on oblivion, and i'm levelling efficiently this time so he'll be level 100 on all stats and attributes eventually which I've not done before.
Chi hasn't posted in 4 days, that is why it seems so vacant. That guy accounts for 1/5 of total posts here.
It's because you'll only have to face things that are level 1 and as such you'll have a much easier time leveling up your individual skills.
But the easier the enemies are the more have to kill. It'll be a lot easier levelling up my heavy armor skill using a mud crab when I'm level 18 than when I'm level 6.
You know what, as crazy as it sounds at times I found myself wondering to what to do or feeling like I should be doing something. As much as I moan about work when I have a few days off and I stay home I feel like I am wasting my time. The one thing I did have planned was a BBQ on Saturday evening. Saturday was fantastic all day and hovered around 25 degrees and then at 5pm the thunder started and within 20 minutes we had torrential rain! An hour later its still raining and I had to call my mates to cancel. The next 2 days it was fine and dry again, bloody typical! This weekend I am working Saturday but taking Tuesday off in lieu as a result. I did plan to do something Tuesday but the early weather report again looks like it might not be too good so we shall see.
