  1. Do companies in the US not care about complaints? I complain about anything I don't like and usually get free stuff out of it. I barely paid anything for my Cable TV and internet last year because I complained so much.

I would track down a high ranking officials email (I have even emailed CEO's in the past) and let him know what happened. Not sure UPS's insurers would be too happy with them leaving packages on steps.

I quite enjoy emailing BBC watchdog and the relevant industry regulators when I don't get what I want or a satisfactory answer making sure to copy in someone high up in the company, that usually gets them moving.

  2. Just email them your avatar, that'll scare them into doing anything you want.

  3. You better watch your mouth or this will be you!

I am sure I can find a wheelchair somewhere, are there any cliffs near where you live or will I have to drive you somewhere?

  4. Depends on the company, but in most cases, no, they don't give a crap. Complaining will usually get you worse service if anything. I started complaining to Comcast about how our service kept going down one time and they actually just hung up on me mid sentence.

It's also common practice for UPS to leave things on doorstops, especially in rotten neighborhoods.

    This is truly terrifying.

  6. It's part of living in a country where almost nothing is regulated and you have huge companies that have virtual monopolies.

  7. We have so many regulators and systems in place that make it easy for us to complain, a few examples.

    Ofgem regulate the power companies,
Ofcom regulate phone and TV companies,
    Ofwat regulate water companies,
    FSA regulate financial service companies,
SRA regulates solicitors and law firms. ETC

We have trading standards who you report people to if they are not adhering to trading laws, we have the sale of goods act which can mean that if you can prove your TV (or any other electrical item) failed because it was faulty the reseller has to repair it for 6 years.

If your still not happy then you complain to the relevant industries ombudsman and they try to sort it out. The EU makes it hard for companies to stick it to consumer too hard but they still try, (natural) gas prices up 19% for example.

  8. Grim. How much does a Sebo X4 run you in the UK?

  9. Anything from £210 ($335) upwards it would seem. That would be including tax so that's the final price, I know a lot of American stuff is listed without tax already on the prices.

  10. It's a fix $799 anywhere here in the US. What a rip.

  11. Holy crap I wouldn't pay that, to be honest I wouldn't pay anything over £250 for a vacuum cleaner and even then it would have to be a damned good one like a Miele. Amazon even have an upright Dyson at £216 at the moment.

Perhaps its because it is a German company? Is there much call for Sebo cleaners in the US? Saying that I doubt it costs $464 ($799 - $335 based on sterling cost) just to import the thing.

  12. It's probably some kind of Hoover conspiracy thing. We can get the Windsor industrial version of the Sebo X4 for about $550 and that doesn't make any sense. Miele and Dyson are also fixed but sometimes a store might give a discount on a Dyson. I bought a Miele with power head for $700 a few years ago. Awesome vacuum. I don't think I'd buy a Dyson.

  13. You have expensive taste in vacuum cleaners.

Although I'm probably not one to talk. I have a Dyson and a Roomba. The Roomba isn't as useful as I thought it would be but it still has its place. I send it under the bed and other furniture to get stuff that would be a pain to get to otherwise.

  14. I do but it's more of an elite gadget fetish. I used to buy a disposible $100 vac about every 2 years. After a while the more expensive vac kind of made sense. I also have an expensive collection of flashlights. I used to laugh at the candlepower forum but now I'm one of them.

I got one of those robot vacs and like you I found it wasn't that useful. I had 5 shedding animals in the house and the little storage compartment would fill up way too fast.

  15. Damn I had no idea vacuum cleaners were so expensive! You could buy a car for the price of some of those!

  16. Vacuum cleaners can go for ridiculous prices. They're usually reserved for industrial cleaning and for people that own animals in the house. Makes a good entry on the wedding registry bahah.

  17. @bfun: you have an expensive collection of flashlights AND go on candlepower forums? I just don't know what to say in response. I've found this more shocking than those Russian krokodil drug videos I watched earlier today. And twice as sickening.

  18. Kirby, Miele, and Sebo vacuums last long enough that you can give them to your grandchildren.

  19. I guess they're kind of an investment them.

  20. Aren't the Kirby vacuums sold through some pyramid scheme?
