I don't really post when I am not at work, never in front of a computer and I can't be bothered with typing long posts on my phone.
Chi has been quiet for a while, he racked up most of his posts in the first couple of months and then went off the boil.
To be honest I have not created threads lately. I need to start doing that again to create some discussions.
I've got a job interview today at 11.15 for the same role I had from March to June this year. It's a long story, I had to apply for the job while I actually had it because I was only temporary and they needed to hire someone permenantly, they couldn't just hire me they have to go through all the usual steps of advertising the job internally, then externally. Long story short I can't see anyone being more qualified for the role since I've been doing it for months so I wouldn't require training. It's a crazy situation, but that's Oxford University for you lol. I'm on great terms with the boss, we get on really well and he's a good old boy. He's on the interview panel although they may make him sit it out because he's biased, but I'm still on good terms with one of the other people on the panel and they're familiar with my work. If I don't get it I'll be having stern words.
I don't think there would have been anything wrong with them offering you a full time position, there is certainly no law against it, odd.
It's the Uni's policy. They have to advertise the job internally, then externally. Since I was a temporary employee I wasn't classed as internal, that's why I had to wait until they expanded to external. They received some applications internally but my boss went external anyway just so I could be given an interview, he wants me to have the job but he's not the head of the Engineering Science department, just the repographics department which is a sub department of Eng Sci. It's a stupid mess and everyone knows it but rules is rules, they'd be mad not to give me the job since my boss is so chuffed with how well I "handled the most pressurised time of the year single handedly with flying colours". He's been fighting my corner since the day we found out we had to go through all this mess, unfortunately he went on holiday to France the weekend my contract expired so I've had to wait over 3 weeks (unpaid remember) just to get an interview. Like I said, if I don't get it I'll be having stern words.
Good old boy has developed a bit of a negative connotation over here. Sometimes it might hint at someone who is sexist or racist. A woman would not want to interview with someone who is labeled as a good old boy.
I thought your dad was your boss? Or was it your dad who got you your job? I'm getting confused in ny old age. Good luck but I'd be a little worried they've gone external when advertising - normally they stay internal if they're trying to set someone up for a post from my old experience in HE.

Installed Ubuntu to a USB key to try to get into a laptop that has crapped out on someone and get his data back and it won't even boot to that. Both Windows and Ubuntu fall over when trying to boot, one from HDD one from USB flash so it isn't looking good. Also won't boot from a Ubuntu live CD 10.10 or 11.04, this is what prompted me to install it on a USB key incase it was the CD drive. Put the memory key in my laptop and booted to make sure it worked and god damn is it fast even over USB 2.0, makes me want to pick up a USB 3.0 flash drive to see what performance I can get from that but at the moment the prices are too stupid. I was going to back up his data and then try to reinstall Windows, will take the drive out and stick it in a desktop to get the data but I am a bit worried its something else now seeing as 2 independent OS'es from different sources will not boot. Windows on HDD, Ubuntu on Flash storage and 2 live CD's from different versions all failed, got to be something else going on here.
It seems like the blame lies with the prosecution. They built a weak case based on circumstantial evidence, and the rockstar defense attorney Anthony hired poked holes in all of it. This was a sick bitch who would chloroform her two year old daughter and leave her tied up in the trunk of her car while she went out drinking and partying, and ultimately decided to kill her by suffocating her with duct tape so she could have the care free life she wanted. She dumped her in a ditch like garbage. Now she walks away on time served because the prosecutors didn't do their damn job. I really hate this state sometimes.
