  1. You'll be doing prep work I guess; it's the starting point for everyone who ends up working in a kitchen. There's no way in hell they're going to just ask you to cook steaks or whatever for people. You'll probably spend months chopping vegetables and boiling water to start. However, if you're prepared to stick with it then you can make a real career out of it, just be prepared to put up with shit off the chef; you've seen Hells Kitchen?

  2. Oh I know that and my mate can and is a right kent, so I need to not piss him off. I also saw someone else I know working there so that helps with me integrating in the kitchen, and I think I will be working with him or helping him, maybe both.

At least it's a job and will keep my close friends and family from moaning to me about getting a job, and me moaning about money.

  3. Good news about the job - When do you start?

  4. He rang 30 min's ago saying he is going to try and get me in later to see how things are run etc and with the other new guy who he is calling a pikey lol. I was supposed to go to a house party tonight but if my first day is tomorrow like he wants then I will be staying in for a clear head, no way will I be messing this up.

So I have to go in. mate said 12-2 then 6-10 I think. Aint done shift work for a while. Today is going to rape my money, taxi down, bus home then bus return down and back. Unless I get a day rider. I'll tell you how it goes when i'm home tonight or after 2.

  5. his mistake was to get his buddy a job under him! Hope you can take the relationship strain. Take him out for pizza and Harry Potter if things get a little spotty :p. No but seriously, friends, jobs (especially when one is the other one's boss ESPECIALLY when its right from the start)- never work out well. I DO hope it works out for you, sounds like an outstanding setup.

  6. Question for Grim.

We're thinking about changing our broadband supplier from shitty Sky to Virgin, how's their service overall? Do you get a good connection? We're thinking about getting the 50mb deal, supposedly there's someone who lives across the street from us who's with them and they get 45mb. Are you happy with VM?

  7. Just got in. He's my mate but not close mate. Just a mate I know and who I chat to whenever I see him and we get on.

Did 12-2 which was sound as watched the two chefs do things, did a few meals and then went home until 6-10 which I treated myself to a maccy D's as had no shopping in and was starving marvin. Went back and damn was it quite hard. Was boiling hot, had to be fast and basically got thrown in the deep end with the other new guy. It was a mix of doing the meals I knew how to do, cleaning to make sure I was not standing around and other times standing around waiting for things I knew how to do. I know a few dishes off by heart now but the rest is eh!? Especially as the other new guy was trying to get all the dishes to learn them all. Finish by cleaning down everything and checking out the fit barmaids and waitresses. ;)

Might be in tomorrow but will be easy as its sunday roast day. All I got to say is that was a new experience and aint worked that hard and fast for a while.

  8. What kind of food is it? I would think with some repetition you'll get down how to prepare all of it.

Whatever is on the top link and some other stuff. Second has a pic of where I work. Nothing too extravagant but repetition like you said i the way to learn which is how I got used to the combo meal and a few others. Head chef mate rang me this morning to quiz me on the combo meal while I was half asleep and got it right and he also said now you got it. Going to get me and the new guy in on separate days. I just need to keep learning the meals then I will be fine. The heat, speed and working is fine.

  10. They need to streamline that menu. All of the best restaurants I've been to only had a few things on the menu. Most of the bad ones had huge menus.

  11. It's a pub restaurant, like I said nothing to extravagant seeing as it's just a pub. Just nice to be working again, although I just hope I keep it as the summer rush season is on soon so will get very busy and hard.

Not had a phone to see if I am in today but hoping I am not as got loads of washing done, shopping as have nothing much in and need me and my mate to finish carpeting the downstairs hallway.

    Edit:

As soon as I sent that last message I got the call and got the day off. They doing the new rota tonight so will no my days by tomorrow. Now can get some things done today.

  12. Casey Anthony got out of prison. Where's Dexter when you need him?

  13. I guess she flew away on a private jet to somewhere unknown. She'll either go into hiding or get her own TV show.

  14. Sorry just had a chance to reply.

First I would check if your area has been upgraded on the upload side yet otherwise you will only get 1.5Mbit up on a 50Mbit down connection which isn't very much. They are moving to 10 to 1 ratios so you will be able to get 5Mbit up once it has been done. You can do that here...

    http://shop.virginmedia.com/content/dam/allyours/pdf/Schedule%2018%2005%2011.pdf

Then I would check to see if there are many complaints on the help and support forum with regards to utilisation. VM have a bad track record of giving a fix date that will come and pass over and over again and never getting the issue resolved. If you are in an over subscribed area and they don't fix it be prepared not to be able to use the connection between 6pm and midnight! Because a lot of the VM network is old a lot of it is rubbish but some of it is good so really look into it.

I would also check the BT infinity site. They are rolling out fibre to street and you area might be activated. The theoretical speeds are 40Mbit down and 10Mbit up (which you can only get on VM's 100Mbit package) so check that out too. Because so few people have it at the moment and the technology is new and only just been installed utilisation isn't like to be an issue anytime soon.

  15. Had a nice karma return this weekend - a friend of mine was having a clear out so he gave me a load of games and his previous 5.1 sound system (a Cambridge audio one). Some of the games I've been after a while (Outcast on the PC and - best of all - a mint version of MGS Twin Snakes). Awesome stuffs indeed.

  16. Things for free eh, funny how rich gits like yourself always seem to get everything, they do say money always goes to money!

  17. By all accounts that's something of a collectors item. I had a copy and traded it in, I wondered why the guy at Gamestation was literally killing himself to get the transaction done..it was about 2 days later someone told me that they were pretty hard to find and sometimes went for silly prices on eBay.

  18. You can hardly complain, Mr Free Meat. I remembered to post Tomb Raider on Saturday - bastard thing cost £1.70 to post and that's just bog standard second class!

  19. Yeah, it's a pretty good game for selling - around £35 to £45 from a quick check. I'm surprised he included it. Mind you, I did get him a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for £6 back in the days I reckon we're about even.

  20. You are then. That is a gem in itself.
