    I'm downloading a video from youtube in 720p at work and it's downloading whole megabytes in a couple of seconds! Downloading has always been a massively slow process for me so this is amazing. Just goes to show exactly how shit Sky's internet is. Glad we're switching.

    Universities normally have very very fast networks. Doubt you'll find an equivalent for home use at an affordable price.

    What speed are you getting in MB/sec? If you moved to the VM 50Mbit service at peak you could expect around 6MB/sec on a download.

    I suppose, but it must be better than it is at the moment. It took my Mum 4 hours to download two HD episodes of some hour long TV show from itunes, and that was around lunch time, not peak time.

    At 6MB/sec thats 360MB every minute or 1GB in under 3 minutes, you will notice a massive difference if you get a good connection.

    People on the 50Mbit and 100Mbit packages tend to get better service than those on the lower packages as there is a lot less of them.

    We're looking at the 50Mbit package so that's good to hear, I'm sick of PS3 software updates that take in excess of an hour, longer if it's GT5.

    I just looked at the downloads tab and the 720p videos are downloading at a rate of 645kb per second.

    That means on your connection is running at about 5Mbit, very poor by today's standards.

    That's the university's connection. I saw a 45mb file download in about a minute, my PS3 would take more like 10 minutes for that.

    That's pretty slow but you are probably sharing that connection with a lot of people and I imagine QoS is in effect making sure you all get a fair cut. A basic 10Mbit connection for example can download 1.2MB/sec so in one minute you should get 72MB.

    If your PS3 is taking 10 minutes to do such a small amount of data then you really are getting a very poor connection at home.

    My Sky internet is okay, doesn't take long to download things, but it could be better.
