Got an extra £250 than normal in my Christmas bonus today so it was worth coming in! What to spend it on?
I will probably just put it all in the bank and horde it, because I changed my account in February I am still getting 5% on my current account so it may be an idea to keep it in there with the rest of it for the remaining 2 months. Should probably start looking at who can offer me the best rates on a new account soon then, 1% is going to be rubbish come February.
Wish I had an extra £250, although I have £117 left in my bank and with that £50 Zavvi voucher I won I will be getting some PS3 games for myself. I am thinking Sonic Generations and naruto ultimate storm 2
I accidentally told my wife so I probably won't see any of it now. She knows what I normally get as a Christmas bonus so I should have just told her I got that and kept the extra as a secret.
I already spent my expected bonus on the wife. Now I just need to find out what my bonus will be. I think there is at least a 30% chanced my boss will hose me. I'll find out in an hour or so.
Some form of 'screw you' then from the boss? Problem for me is that I told the wife that I would put the money towards a deposit for a holiday (vacation) in the summer, now that I have it I don't really want to!
My boss gets stuck on the little things. I could do something amazing like save a million dollars but if I turn that report in 1 day late he'll make a note of it and throw it back at me during a performance review. Yearly performance reviews are really fricken stupid anyway. I mean what sense does it make to wait until the end of the year to tell someone they are performing or under performing? A good manager should do that every week.
Not sure if its a British thing but they like to call them 'appraisals' over here and mine didn't even happen this year. Our year end is May but I very much expect not to have another one. Seeing as we don't make money, we only spend it, I guess it's more important that they get the Fee Earners in and shake them down if they are not performing well. Nothing has actually gone wrong here for years and now that everything is running on VMWare its stupidly easy to get something back within a few minutes even if it completely fails thanks to Veeam. My boss said the Partners were very happy with how stable the whole system was when he gave me the cheque so I guess that's as much of a review as I am likely to get.
It's a big deal in the US. The guy who started the whole thing said it was designed to establish a path of removal for under-performing employees in the corporate world. Then somehow it got turned into a regular practice for all employees which wasn't the intended purpose. Everyone hates it and in my job it's done on a curve so it really makes people upset. The curve means only a very few people will get rated as high even if everyone performed the same. They also have to rate a few people as under-performing which really destroys morale.
Is this happening today then? If it is I wish you the best of luck but I guess they will have already made up their mind whether you've been naughty or nice. Also if it is today that would be a really good way to destroy someone's Christmas to tell them they have been under performing and could face losing their job etc.
Well thank you. I asked to do it before Christmas because I didn't feel like waiting another week. I'm not really concerned about it. I can't be fired and I can't get a raise. I might get a bonus but I'm not even sure how that will work. The worse thing that can come from getting a bad review is having to show it to someone else at a job interview.
