  1. I meant im in his debt haha.

What is dhcp btw and how do I turn it off?

  2. Re: Connection problem after AVG maintenance

Yeah as bfun said we just found the problem, haven't fixed it.

If you are happy to continue using manual for now I would recommend setting your IP far away from the DHCP one your PS3 has so you don't end up with a conflict. Say .100 if it is on .10, your router doesn't know you have given out that address manually and may offer it to something else.

DHCP is something your router is doing to give out IP information to everything on your network. For some reason your laptop isn't getting the information. We proved this by setting a manual IP and it worked. For now leave DHCP on your router and set your laptop on manual and set it to .100 so you don't get a conflict. After having hassle all day I doubt you want to troubleshoot issues now?

  3. Dynamic auto-assigned IP from routers. You most likely want it on, and it's probably still broke. Grim probably just wanted to verify it was a DHCP issue and not something else. You should figure out how to uninstall the AVG firewall.

  4. No and im out for the next few days too. Bloody thought it was fixed bah. If you can help me
Solve it when im back home that will be a massive help. That program obviously did something to it but no clue what.

  5. Re: Connection problem after AVG maintenance

Now you are online try AVG remover from the AVG site.

    http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

Also install and run MalwateBytes. I'm a bit suspicious here, sounds a bit like an infection to be honest.

  6. I will try all of these when I return home Thursday night. Hopefully its just being Avg being a Wanker. Any idea on a decent replacement for Avg that is free?

  7. Re: Connection problem after AVG maintenance

AVG is fine, just make sure you read every page and untick anything where it mentions free software or trials.

You have to be meticulous with those free active scanners.

  8. I always am but it came from the Avg program so I thought it was all good. It deleted a ton of things that I didnt need, gave me
    Some extra memory from
Cleaning and defragmented my Hdd. It was only a day trial as well so thought it couldn't do no harm.

  9. I installed Daemon Tools recently, that used to be a respectable CD/DVD emulator. It installed a crap ton of viruses on the system I needed the virtual drive on.

    Never trust anything.

  10. I used to have that for emulation years ago but mever got viruses. Dont trust anything online indeed.

Ill try those suggestions in a few days and hopefully that fixes the problem.

I turned off my modem as well just in case.

  11. Yeah these system improvement tool are almost always bad no matter who's name is on them. The cnet reviews for this program is like 11 pages of people warning you not to use it. It pretty much breaks your computer then becomes impossible to uninstall. Then after your 1 day is up it will pelt you with adds and reminders to buy the full version. It's as malicious as any malware out there.

  12. Free shit always install a ton of partner apps to gay up your computer.

  13. Re: Connection problem after AVG maintenance

What happens if unistalling Avg and doing that malware thing doesn't work? Will I need to reinstall windows or reset it or something? bloody machines hate me Lately.

I did manage to uninstall the one touch maintenance/tune up program so thats a good thing.

  14. If it were me I'd being reinstalling Windows already. The tricky question is how to do it. There is probably a 50/50 chance of having a recovery partition on your machine.

  15. Re: Connection problem after AVG maintenance

Windows reinstall? That's the easy way out.

Nothing feels better than troubleshooting an issue and fixing it. Can actually save a lot of time too, reinstalling everything is a pain. You have 100-200 windows updates? That can take a few hours alone.

Troubleshooting is my favourite thing about IT, makes the time fly. Thinking outside the box and coming up with fixes can be so fulfilling.

People know when I'm enjoying a bit of hardcore troubleshooting as I start rambling stuff at them when they ask how its going. They usually just go away at that point.

  16. Indeed. Im not willing to spend hours reinstalling and losing everything because I dont have any external HDDs.

  17. lol install TeamViewer and let Grim fix it. His day will be fulfilled.

  18. all data is disposable, brev. you will learn this after you do the wipe and reinstall. things you thought you needed were files that you haven't touched in years.

  19. Once I suspect the PC has been tainted I don't trust it. Root kits are pretty invulnerable.

  20. I have tons of Win 7 Pro keys I don't use and can send you an ISO if you need it.
