Deus Ex Human Revolution

  1. Apparently Eidos is now working on a patch for the stuttering.

    @bfun

The graphics are definitely not the strong point of this game. Even with DX11 and tesselation enabled, and everything maxed out, it still looks rather dated, like something from 2005 or 2006 maybe. The game does have some really good art direction though as you'll see when you reach Shanghai.

  2. I am actually really enjoying this.

Just beat the first boss Barrett and am now going around Detroit clearing up everything I missed for XP before I move on. Good fun all round.

  3. -----Spoilers-------

Don't do the augmentation recall! It makes one of the later boss fights really tough.

  4. The more I play the more I like it. It started kind of slow.

  5. My feelings exactly. It starts off kind of "meh" but gets pretty good as it goes.

Anyone who isn't sure about the game should at least play until you get to Shanghai. That's where the game really starts to pick up and feel like a true successor to Deus Ex. The first few missions in Detroit are slow and not terribly interesting.

  6. -----Spoilers-----

Which ending do you think is the true (canonical) one?

The only two that made any sense within the context of the other two games are Sarif's ending, or destroying Panchaea. The Illuminati are still in power in the other games, corporations still operate unchecked, and augmentation technology is still advancing at a fast pace, so the other two made no sense.

  7. Eidos released a patch to fix the stuttering and make the game run better on dual core CPUs. It now runs stutter free for me. I'm doing a second run through to try different augmentations. Among other things I never play around with the typhoon that they spent half the game hyping up. I also think there might have been a couple of side missions I missed.

  8. Second run through? Sounds like you're doing a lot more than just "trying before you buy".

  9. I bought the game after I saw that the patch worked.

The other thing I never tried oddly enough was the cloaking device. I played as a walking tank character so it never seemed useful.

  10. Typhoon is that chest explosion thing right? That’s a great boss killer. In fact it probably made the boss battles too easy. My favorite weapon so far is the 10mm with laser, silencer, and armor piercing. It’s a one shot kill to the head. I’ve taken out whole teams of bad guys with head shots. Shotty is great for taking out tough guys at close range. I’ve never used the heavy machine gun, sniper rifle, rockets, or cross bow. They take up too much room in inventory. The assault rifle is okay but it goes through ammo too quickly. The 357 is great but I prefer stealth. EMP grenades are invaluable for the robots. I can’t believe a single grenade will take out a giant robot.

  11. I only used the heavy rifle once for the female boss. It made quick work of the power supplies and with the electricity invulnerability augment she went down easy.

  12. I mostly used non-lethal weapons except for boss battles. The tranquilizer sniper rifle was very handy and nice and quiet.

The shotgun is brutally powerful when upgraded.

  13. The problem with the heavy rifle is that you're vulnerable when it first starts spinning up. It's good for boss battles though.

I mostly used the 10mm pistol, revolver, and assault rifle. The revolver is especially good with the explosive ammo upgrade. It's like carrying around a small bazooka.

  14. I just finished that battle last night. Power supplies? I don’t even know what those are. Two level 1 typhoon shots and a few shot gun blast to the head and she went down in less than a minute.

  15. The computer tells you to use electricity (conducted via coolant on floor) to get her cloak to drop. There are 4 of them around the sides, shoot them and she stops dead and gets shocked. If you don't have the electric invunrability augment you die too otherwise its a great way to stop her.

Ithink I am near the end of the game now and got offered a new chip in LIMB but turned it down as it seemed suspicious and I think that was what cmdr was talking about. Think I missed 2 side missions during Detroit riots but have done all the others. That is except the Extra one that came as a code with the game. Forgot to use the code before I started game and then couldn't be bothered with starting again.

  16. Ah. I may have done that inadvertently. The Typhoon is an AOE attack. Although I never really had a problem chasing her even when cloaked. She always ran around the outside of the pillars and I would take the short route on the inside. Every time I saw her footsteps I hit her with the shotgun.

  17. I have unlocked the typhoon and so far into the gamebit probably isn't worth it now seeing as I left all the ammo and never picked any up.

Maybe next time if I try for the hard and pacifist trophies (will only be able to use on bosses so might be a waste) .

  18. I felt the options were stupid given the game happens before the others. I suppose destroying Panchaea made sense but Sarif's was more likely.

  19. True, and two of the options made absolutely no sense within the context of the other two games and couldn't have happened.

As you said in your little review, this game had a slow start, an amazing middle, and sort of a "meh" ending. It was obvious to me that at some point they just ran out of money and time and said fuck it. The game is going great and then just sort of drops off a cliff when you get to Panchaea. I'm not sure what to make of that last boss fight. It was hardly a boss fight at all.

It may sound like I'm being negative but I actually really liked this game. All of the stuff between the first few stinky missions in Detroit and the last few missions in Panchaea was pretty awesome.
