Diablo III

  1. I'm wondering what the bandwidth requirements are.

  2. Not sure if I'll buy this at launch or wait for a price drop. I enjoyed Diablo 2, but I wasn't fanatical about it the way a lot of people were.

  3. Price drop on Blizzard games take a century. Starcraft 2 is still $59.99 iirc

  4. I had forgotten that. We'll probably all be wearing depends by the time it hits $29.99.

  5. I'm going to try and play through an EVDO card so I hope latency wont be a problem.

  6. you have dial up style latency right now?

  7. I'm traveling and will probably have an E350 APU with EVDO @ 120ms - 180ms .8Mbs. The E350 gets 30fps on Starcraft 2 at low so D3 should be playable. Kinda iffy.

  8. So am I the only person here who's actually buying this?

  9. I'm trying to figure out what version to buy, digital or disk. I want to install it on 2 PCs so I'm thinking disk will be better.

  10. If it's anything like SC2 or WoW, the disc is meaningless and either way you're just paying for a key that you activate on battlenet. You would then have it installed on multiple PCs and you just sign in when you go to play.

  11. Just bought the digital version, but I don't think it activates until like 3AM tonight.

It's downloading surprisingly fast at 3.3 MB/s, which is odd considering everyone in the world is trying to get this game right now.

Guess no one else on PVC is getting this. I don't get it because people were so excited in the past. This place really is fucking dead when people can't even get excited about a Blizzard launch.

  12. PC only, that's why. Alot of people here got Skyrim because it was multiplatform. It looks like the active people we have here are split 50/50 on console and pc.

  13. It's a Blizzard game though. So it will run on Armadeadn's shitty Acer or emachines or whatever.

Anyway, I guess I'm not cool enough to play this game yet because I can't even log in. Their servers are getting buttraped.

  14. At the moment I am not sure how well it would run on my HD3000 based i3 laptop so I am having to wait and see how other people do.

  15. It's a dell you fool!

  16. @Grim

    Looks perfectly playable to me:

  17. I'll be downloading the OS X version soon enough...probably later in the week. The hardware specs look pretty moderate even for recommended levels.

I think it's also the test of time thing. This game is 15 years after Diablo 2? I remember starcraft 2 getting the big anticipation too but it's not standing the test of time like most thought.

maybe blizzard needs to pump out another mmo based on one of these franchises to get the masses addicted for years again.

But if you're already getting login errors.. that must mean launch day mayhem due to tons of people purchasing the game.... or blizzard didn't learn anything from their wow launch.

  19. One of the big problems with SC2 is that people were expecting the Protoss and Zerg campaigns within a year or two of launch and it never happened. Blizzard claimed they would be released soon after like expansions. Terrans were always the most boring race to play in Starcraft. Also, RTSs have much narrower appeal than hack n' slash RPGs. They appeal to a very particular subset of geeks. Take PVC for instance. I don't think anyone here really plays RTSs other than myself.

Anyway, according to Amazon, Diablo 3 had more preorders than any PC game in history. Every time I tried to login last night, I got an error saying the servers were too busy and to try again later. Diablo 2 was immensely popular when I used to play it a decade ago so I guess I'm not that surprised. I remember a lot of Joe Sixpacks who weren't otherwise into PC gaming being into Diablo. So I don't think popularity is going to be an issue. Some things aren't ready at launch, like PVP, so I could see that becoming an issue if they don't roll it out soon.

  20. Re: Re: Diablo III

I used to play a lot of RTS games alongside my JRPG addiction. Me and a friend had our PS1's almost constantly linked every weekend for C&C red alert. If we played Soviet vs allies then the Soviets always won. An army of mammoth tanks could destroy anything.

Kind of fell out of love with them after the last couple of C&C games let me down. Think Dawn of War was the last one I really enjoyed.
