Yeah, Cole just recently became available as a party member for me and I was thinking about using him for the same reason: daggers often have the highest damage rating. I currently have a schematic for a sacrificial dagger that has a 200+ rating, and there's some sort of spinning damage attack for rogues that will damage multiple targets per use. He's probably similar to Varric though in terms of fragility, so I was wondering how that would really work out with close range attacks.
Cole seems pretty effective with the Double Daggers loaded out, and he takes less damage than I thought he might. He seems to kill off the character banter though. Cassandra and Iron Bull haven't said anything when he's in the group.
I think Varric and Solas are the only two that even like him and the only two that ever talked to him. I got tired of hearing the constant, "terrors bleed and mend and the pain is hurting", blah blah. Sera and Bull are a pretty good combo. Basically she pisses everyone off with her crazy but he finds a way to out crazy her. He also out gays Dorian. If you want constant gay humor put those two together. Both Dorian and Sera will find themselves at a loss for words at some point.
The weird thing is that Cole is the character most likely to approve of my actions in the game. I've done some Inquisitor judging in Skyhold and Cole always seems to approve regardless. Cassandra wants me to give him the boot, and I'm wondering if I should or not. He does seem to have some insight into the Western Approach temple stuff. Armadeadn: I've really enjoyed it. It's the type of game where the further you get into it, the more you like it. The storyline and characters do have some depth.
I've read that giving companions the boot doesn't necessarily remove them from game. New quest might open up. I only banned one companion and it was late in the game. I assume you're chatting with your companions between quest. That's where all the juicy stuff comes from. I'll give you one tip that you may have read in your book. You need to finish the horse master quests before you can start unlocking new mounts. I didn't figure that out until really late in the game. It wasn't a big deal but I wish I had noticed it earlier. Armadeadn: I gave it a 9/10. It's very different than Skyrim. The game is centered around politics, companion interaction, and 4 party combat. I thought it started really slow but once your relationships develop it gets a lot more interesting.
Skyhold seems to have a bit more personal drama in the companion chats than in Haven, or at least more variety in terms of what they might say to you each time. Nice touch writing-wise, as there's good reason for them to be more open or confiding at that point in the story.
I must have been about half way through the main story before most of them really opened up. Their drama must be triggered by story events. I'm kind of wondering if I should go back and try to kill all the dragons. There is much of a point to it other than the challenge.
I may try knocking off the dragon that's in Crestwood. I'm feeling a bit more confident about it after coming out on top in a major brawl with five or six Elite Wyverns. I've also recently started to pick up masterwork level materials for crafting weapons/armor. Armor is the main question mark for the dragon battle.

I actually have this game now but because I have so many games to play it is actually bottom of my pile. I thought it best to leave the longest one until last? Soon I might actually know what you guys are talking about, when I say soon I probably mean by April/may?
Well that's my usual strategy. Save the longest for last. It's a typical 80 hour RPG. Lots of management, lore, and reading. Best not attempt it when your itching to play other games.
80 hours is a rush through. I'm very close to 80 and still haven't been to every area in the game. I just recently ventured into the Hissing Wastes.
You really are taking your time. I hit 98 and I don't think I left too much out. The ending will happen rather quickly once you go down that path. I never really unlocked the full story of Solas. That was my only regret. Have you kicked any companions out of your party yet? I got rid of one. From a strategic standpoint I hated to do it but I felt it was in line with my characters morals.
No, I haven't kicked anybody out, but then I haven't come across any reasons for doing so yet. I'm guessing it was either Sera or Cole? I've kind of decided that I prefer Sera to Varric when it comes to the party rogue. As far as the time goes, it's probably just down to doing a sh*tload of side quests and requisitions, as I recently got the trophy for hitting an Inquisition influence level of 10.
I came across some really unexpected drama with one of the companions. Perhaps it wont happen to you. I had to make really difficult decisions with several companions but others had simpler problems. One of them even burned me pretty bad in the end. Are you playing a love interest? I was totally going for the dwarf scout but sadly the game wouldn't let me seal the deal.
Yep, I chose Cassandra as the love interest. The best thing about it is some of the junior high school commentary from Iron Bull and Sera afterwards. The actual romantic rendezvous is about what you'd expect from a video game…fairly clunky, with some not-next-gen-enough nudity thrown into the mix.
I wish I'd chosen Cassandra. In the begging she was rude and obviously didn't like mages but by the end we were all chummy. I chose Josephine and the special missions were alright but seemed like a distraction to the main story. Leliana threatened to harm me if I harmed her so I had to let the dwarf go. It's hard to sneak one past the spy master and she does get pretty psycho by the end of the game. I wonder what dating her would have been like.
Did you choose Mages or Templars for the alliance? Leliana is equal parts intense/creepy/heroic in the Mages mini storyline. I think that's what threw me off her as a romantic possibility. Too closely associated with all the weird stuff that happened in that interlude...she definitely didn't take any b.s. in that!
I think Bioware left out Leliana as a romance option. Same goes for Varric, Cole and a few others. I tried romancing Iron Bull which led to some hilarious cutscenes. Anyway, I think I'm done with DA:I, it really is a fantastic game. I put 85 hours in according to Origin, did the main storyline and damn near every side quest I could find. Ended up tapping out at Level 23. Defeated all of the dragons in each territory, excluding one of them in Emprise du Lion, The Highland Ravager I think it's called. That battle was pretty tough and eventually I gave up. I enjoyed it so much that I picked up DA: Origins, as I missed that one. I've never played it, but if it's anything like DA:I, count me in.
