Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

  1. I think all of the guilds are like that. Even though I finished the Dark Brotherhood, I can still go to the Dawnstar Sanctuary and take random contracts.

It seems like this is a game that can be played almost endlessly similar to a MMORPG.

  2. I've bumped up my conjuration to just below 50. Destructive magic is in the mid to high 50s. I'm seeing the value of summoning to distract foes. I added the perk that makes the atronachs last 50% longer. Pure mages can be quite potent with the right upgrades. I don't feel nearly as vulnerable since I started summoning atronachs regularly. The only think I don't like about it is the annoyance of switching back to a flame spell with that hand for double casting.

The leveling system is terrific in Skyrim. I can't express how passionately I hated Oblivion's lame system trying to limit how many times I jumped before I slept and whatnot. This is easily the biggest improvement of Skyrim over Oblivion in my view.

  3. *sniff* is the only one NOT playing Skyrim :(

oh well. I didn't want this game anyway.... but I might try it now, but when it's cheap, like 20 bucks on steam (sale)

  4. You'll get the better version anyway. With Bethesda it's usually best to wait for the GOTY edition.

When you complete the Dark Brotherhood, there are a bunch of upgrades you can make to the Dawnstar Sanctuary, but they're extremely expensive and I'm not sure how worthwhile any of them are. The torture chamber seemed good for a laugh but that's about it. The place is basically just a large and extremely expensive house from I can gather. I think I'd rather just keep the 20,000 in gold for other stuff.

  5. Shinji's looking terribly fearsome these days:

    Also this:

I read a comment on a Skyrim video the other day where some guy said it looked just like World of Warcraft only worse. Such a retarded statement. Comparing Skyrim to WoW is like comparing Battlefield to Doom.

  6. How high is your smithing level? You need to be level 50 to make orcish armor if I'm not mistaken.

Also, how did you level smithing? I've read a few places just to make a bunch of daggers and enchant them, then sell them back.

  7. I'm at level 72 now in smithing. You're right it's level 50 for Orcish. I just bought all the ingots and leather I could find and went to town for a little while, it didn't take as long as I thought it would to increase the skill. Making jewellery is the fastest way, actually training is the fastest but you know what I mean. I think I trained 5 or 6 times total in the skill, the rest was all me. The hardest part was finding enough people with gold to sell all my armour and weapons to after I'd crafted them. 8 more levels and I'll be making a nice flawless ebony set, then only 10 levels until daedric, and only 10 more until I'm making god damned mother fucking dragon armour!

  8. Hah! I've made it to level 40 without touching the main quest line or many side quests. I'm now level 90 with one handed weapons and 70 with heavy armour. Things are comming along nicely.

  9. Are you just grinding? How do you get that high without actually playing the game?

  10. I have been playing; I've been scouring any ruin I can in search of some particularly nice masks I've been coming across. That has taken precedence over the rest of the game for me at the moment.

  11. I keep going back to the greybeards, everytime I do they mark a new word on my map then I'm off on another mini adventure knowing the reward will be worth it.

  12. They tell you where you can find new words? That could help me when I'm looking for those masks, since the liches are usually near the words anyway. Perhaps I should pay a visit to those greybeards.

  13. I can't believe I missed the last word I waa sent to get. It was literally 50 feet away from the shrine of hircine I discovered a couple of days ago. Back then I remember hearing a faint chanting but a cursory glance at my surroundings didn't reveal anything so I dismissed it.

  14. You're doing the work but your missing all the back stories. I guess that's alright since quest don't give experience and the rewards are so weak. But still.

  15. @armitage

Since you hate the Dark Brotherhood so much there's actually a way to initiate a quest where you help the imperial guards wipe them out instead of joining them. Kill the old woman at the orphanage for the little kid. She's evil so don't worry too much about it. Then when Astrid abducts you and asks you to kill one of three people, kill her instead. After this you go talk to the head of the guards who wants you to go to the Dark Brotherhood base and wipe them out.

This game is more like FO3 in that there are usually several ways to go about completing quests. I remember Oblivion being very straight forward and never giving you much of a choice.

  16. Huh? The Dark Brotherhood gives you 20,000 gold and your own assassin base just for completing one quest. How is that a weak reward? If anything I've found the quests much more worthwhile in this one because the rewards are so crazy. Oblivion gave you crap for completing quests.

If you're just grinding like Armitage you're missing out on a lot of stuff.

  17. I'm tempted to skill up speechcraft so I can sell stolen items to merchants. ;) I'm a freakin clepto in this game. I can play the game for 3hrs straight and not do anything but scour through people's houses, pick locks, and pickpocket everyone. I'm still only level 11 because of this.

About six of those levels were gained by literally doing nothing though (archery training exploit).

  18. Did you do the Thieves Guild yet? That's probably going to be the next big quest line I tackle.

I have a different problem. I can't stop murdering people and hiding the bodies. Its like every time I find some minor NPC and there are no guards around I feel compelled to bash their skull in with my warhammer.

  19. Monkey if you still need soul gems you may want to head to Azura's shrine. It will start a quest which may be useful to you.

  20. Yeah I had that quest come up but it didn't look important. Guess ill give it a go.

I'm glad I leveled two handed. I can kill almost anyone in one or two hits. You are more vulnerable but you just compensate by leveling armor.
