There is a particular place you can go, by the name of Blackreach, that has natural soul gem deposits. You just need to mine them.
its possible if you're ranged. I was able to kill 2 of them kiting them around uneven terrain so they kept running back and forth. the loot was decent. apparently the just used an oversized graphic of the same weapons we use. the two I killed were carrying dwarven weapons.
I'm thinking about trying my luck in battle with a giant soon. Right now I'm visiting the greybeards. Also, I have a mess at the mage college I have to clean up.
Can you get flawless gems by mining there? I've really just encountered common, lesser, and petty soul gems.
The whole thing was extra funny because I let it happen. I had met a giant earlier in the game and he was friendly. Well he didn't attack. So when I met my second giant I walked right up to him and said hello. Then he launched my stupid ass into space. I'm pretty sure the Azura quest will give you a re-usable grand soul gem. I haven't finished the quest yet so I'm not positive.
There isn't anything known as a flawless soul gem. The closest thing to that would be a black or grand soul gem, both of which can be gotten from there.
Yes the Azura's shrine quest does do that. Also if you don't have your weapons drawn and you can see that the giant isn't shaking his fist or anything like that then you can walk right up to them.
Ok, I'm level 50 now and I have myself some sweet legendary Daedric armour and weapons, now to get my enchanting and alchemy up so I can make some extremely powerful arms and armour.
I'm saving grand/black soul gems for when I make my dragon armour. How are you level 50 already? I've played nothing but skyrim for the last 8 days, 4 of which I wasn't at work and I'm only level 38. Witchcraft I say!
Nah, I've had nothing to do recently as most of my friends still have exams etc. So I've put about 90 hours into Skyrim already. Plus I switched paths, originally I was more of a mage oriented character, then I went full melee and smithing. So now I have 100 in one-handed and smithing as well as in conjuration and almost 100 in destruction. So I guess I've been gaining a lot skill increases.
Yeah I started by making a battlemage just like my main dude from oblivion but I'm kind of regretting it now because he's so good with a sword and shield that the destruction magic has become rather redundant. I want to start a new character but don't want to do quests and things I've not yet done with my current character. I've decided I'm going to skip the daedric armour, even though it's the best looking by far. I can't be arsed to go around mining for ebony ingots or spending huge amounts of cash on them. I'm just going to buy a shit load of iron ore and iron ingots and make daggers until I'm level 100, then it's dragon armour time!
Just in case you lot didn't know, Daedric Armour gives you more damage protection than Dragon Armour. This is very odd since you have to be ten levels higher in smithing to make dragon than you do to make daedric. It's also annoying as I didn't discover this until after I'd made my dragon armor. Also I was unaware that you could make a powerful potion to increase smithing skills and improve the armour much more than you usually would be able to, again this is annoying as I've already improved my armour (except for the helmet).
Yep. That was one of the few useful things I got out of messing around with alchemy. Also, loving the Double Dragon reference.
Put in some more time with this game this weekend...had what seemed like a harmless drinking contest in a bar that ended up throwing me into a bizarre series of linked events in the city of Markath, including having to escape from imprisonment in the silver mines and making a bargain with Molag Bal, Lord of Domination. The political intrigue in Skyrim is getting complicated, to say the least!
