Fallout 4

  1. I never buy guides, rather spend a long time playing the game thoroughly and finding things for myself.

I won't be playing the game until after Christmas so I will be out of this thread at some point to avoid spoilers.

  2. Anyone get the Pip-Boy version?

Also Best Buy has a socks version.

  3. I've pre-ordered a physical copy of the regular PC edition for $55AUD. They also had PS4 and Xbone for the same price, but I have a good PC so there's no way I'd consider them for this type of game.

I got a similar price on Skyrim at the time but our dollar was a bit stronger then. For reference most new games are $70-100 and fallout 4 is currently $79.90(USD!) on steam, which is a definite 'no go' price for me. It's bloody strange that they'd try to charge us more in USD than the US. No idea how bethesda games keep releasing so cheap here in physical copy but it is one of the many reasons I've bought them day one, or in this case, pre-ordered when I don't normally. Price it right and you'll get the sales you want.

  4. I've bought guides for Skyrim and DA:I for the character class/leveling info and tips. I seem to recall Fallout 3 being a bit wonky in that area and you could end up regretting some of the perks.

  5. I am definitely buying a guide. I have like 8 guides for most epic games including Skyrim, Fallout 3, Dark souls, Bloodborne or Witcher 3 and I love the feeling of paging through and recalling some most interesting quests. i never use guides during actual play through.

  6. Preloading. Got the Fallout 4/Black Ops 3 friendly drivers from nVidia. Should be ready to go right when this unlocks.

  7. IGN 9.5/10
    Gamespot 9/10
    PC Gamer 88/100

Was afraid I had made a mistake by preordering. Looks good. Consensus seems to be that it's typical Bethesda high quality with some bugs at launch.

  8. Sounds like the PS4 version has some major frame rate issues when you're inside buildings/structures that require loading time to enter. People are comparing it to the problems Witcher 3 had in indoor areas on PS4. The Day One patch doesn't do much for those problems either.

  9. No one played it yet then?

  10. It uses underpowered 2010 era hardware and doesn't have an SSD, so no surprises there. PC master race FTW. Anyone who's not a filthy casual peasant will be playing it on PC anyway.

    unlocks at midnight

  12. Too bad they don't analyze any of the indoor areas for frame rate in that video.

  13. I don't think they can beat 0fps from the xboxone

  14. Seems like the Xbox drops a bit more outdoors but the PS4 drops with particle effects and indoors. I'm guessing particle effects might be more CPU intensive.

  15. Hmmm. Very temped to unlock the game early with a VPN.

  16. If it ain't broke, it ain't bethesda

  17. I'm getting a constant 60 FPS with all settings maxed out at 1920x1200. I'm not sure how high the framerate actually is because I can't find an option to turn off vsync.

  18. So is the combat any different from Fallout 3? In the frame rate video, I was getting that same "run in circles and occasionally turn around and shoot" vibe.

  19. It's been awhile since I've played Fallout 3 but I'm pretty sure the combat is identical.

I'm running everything on ultra at 1440p and getting 51 FPS.

  20. Fortunately it's possible to change the field of view. I think the default must be 60 degrees. I set mine to 100.
