I guess I'm not the only one who sees Dorner as something of an anti-hero who's just taking out the trash. If only more cops had the balls to stand up for what's right, maybe police corruption wouldn't be so out of control in this country, and we wouldn't have to have a post about abusive American cops every single goddamn day. And unfortunately, I think it may take a violent overthrow of the current system for that to happen. I mean just look at how the cops are reacting to this by gunning down innocent civilians. They're proving that Dorner is right. http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/08/us/lapd-attacks/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 Also, seriously, a rogue cop gunning down bad cops? I guarantee you this gets made into a Hollywood movie.
It will be an interesting 'trial' but I think to condone it is just heinous. Who is he to judge? How 'bad' are these cops? As Dorner himself proves 'bad' is only relative. To those in danger from this punk Dorner is certainly 'bad' but to others like monkey he's an 'anti-hero'. To this anti-hero pot smokin cops are (probably) bad in a separate situation perhaps these pot smokin cops are simply... I don't know but you see there are a LOT of complications for one man to think he can cover every one of them and dish out HIS own judgement is just mad IMO. Who does Dorner gun down? the Cop who hasn't recieved the training to handle high stress situations yet gets put in it one time and ends up doing what everybody else is doing? Or is he going after the CEO that authorizes such behavior? I doubt if you even 'eliminate' such frayed authorization do you prevent a high stress situation that's gone bad, who's to know? Not me or anyone is all I'm saying IMO he's just another madman on the loose. Perhaps his first trigger WAS against some truely bad cops, not saying that there aren't any. Just that to get this kind of attention it must have turned into a rampage by now and to pass judgement on that many is just insanity. Does he deserve a trial? I don't know what judge would have him obviously every one will be soured by his actions by now.
Almost every modern action hero is based on this concept. They already have movies about this. Sylvester Stallone is in a few of them.
He gunned down an innocent woman and her fiancee. LAPD is apparently replete with murderous incompetents, and this piece of shit would have fit right in if they had not canned him. There are no heroes in this story. Just villains and victims.
Apparently he's now holed up in a mountain cabin after a shootout. The odds don't look very high for any outcome beyond bullet riddled corpse or suicide.
The LAPD gunned down two innocent women in the hysteria, although they survived. Evidently the LAPD thought two elderly Asian ladies were a dead ringer for one 300-pound black guy.
Aparrently the cops at the cabin have reported a single gun shot from within the cabin and the place is now on fire. Suicide, the pussy's way out. The LAPD have said that until they can verify that the body inside is the guy they're after and not just another random person they started shooting at, they will continue the hunt, so stay off the streets of LA if you don't want to be gunned down by cops. I heard the LAPD were trying really hard to catch this guy and arrest him. They're obviously trying so hard that not only are they shooting first and asking questions later they seem to be shooting first and checking targets later. Scary retarded shit.
You have to treat American cops like you would any violent street gang. Keep moving and don't say anything to them or make eye contact. Certainly don't film them. They're just looking for an excuse to beat you up.
Whistleblower of the horrendous PRISM surveillance program talks about why he spoke out and revealed the nefarious activities of the NSA.
He did the right thing. Too bad doing the right thing now lands you in prison. At least he had the sense to flee the country.
Is prism really that bad? It is just phone call records, not conversations, obtained by warrant. Republicans are furious about the violation of civil liberties that existed when we only had Bush's warrantless wiretaps!
Hasn't Obama been the worst president for punishing whistleblowers? Good job too, we shouldn't be prying into the governments affairs - I'm sure it's all legit or something.
The metadata from phone companies like Verizon being available without a warrant to government and law enforcement is nothing new. That's been around (and legal) for decades. There really is a big difference legally between simply tracking calls from different points vs. hearing the content of the call. This is an excerpt from a fairly interesting take on the matter. He makes a pretty strong argument in regards to overreaction to these recent stories:
It appears Citizen AKS has troubles with our plans. I shall investigate his PRISM files immediately; I believe some re-education may be in order.
I don't think most people even understand what "this" actually consists of. Like the article I linked to mentions, metadata collection by government agencies and law enforcement is nothing new. Obama didn't invent it. It's not a scandal by itself. They need to find the specific instances of abuse of the system, not simply say "The government has access through the courts to our metadata. OMG!"
Secret court orders and documenting and cataloging the telecommunications activities of every American citizen is not standard procedure. We wouldn't even know of these programs had it not been leaked, yet we're supposed to trust this administration about there being checks and balances and limitations of their surveillance programs? Udall wanted to share this information ages ago but was not permitted to even share it with the public, only hinting that the American public would be horrified if we knew how we were being monitored. Who knows what other secret surveillance operations are being carried out. I don't believe PRISM is necessarily the worst of it.
How do you know the corporations aren't doing something inappropriate in regards to surveillance with the metadata? That's where it all originates. They're not as directly accountable to the public either. To me, a large part of this is simply the contemporary trend for treating the government as somehow MORE suspect than the private sector. That's a right wing mindset.
Supporting Obama's policies (which mirror neocon Dubya's policies in most ways) is a right wing mindset, and you've done that over and over. I've consistently opposed authoritarian, fascist policies regardless of who was behind them. Can you say the same? Where you got the idea that I trust big business I'll never know. I guess you've never seen comments I've posted about big banks, Monsanto, or big oil companies. They are the ones bankrolling corporate shills like Obama and have hideously corrupted our political system. I'd like to see a Constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United, reimplementation of Glass-Steagall, repeal of the Telecom Act of 1996, repeal of NAFTA, and a wide variety of other limitations and restrictions of big business.
