Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD(PS3 and Vita)

  1. Aren't these just cut scenes? It seems like most FF games are just short movies separated by some kind of arena fight.

  2. Those are in game shots. 8) Most story scenes are done with the in game engine like MGS, but there are CGI scenes as well.

  3. That actually does look good. Pretty much how I remember it looking, which is great because I know what it would actually look like if I played it again (bad). They have really done a good job with the textures in particular. Maybe they already had them made at a higher resolution, or they've re-created a lot of them. But yes, the textures were what I was really worried about.

I really hope they do XII, but I won't hold my breath. There is still hope that XV will be a similar game to XII given the modern mechanics are probably still similar, unlike the older titles.

  4. I am actually hoping for a FFXII remake too. Only because I never completed it last time and it could be quite fun. If these two remaster versions sell well(They will) then I would bet on FFXII being re done in HD.

  5. I didn't complete it either, my PS2 fat (launch) couldn't read the disk about 20hrs in. So I did the tweak to move the laser closer to the disk. That worked for 10 hours or so, then I had to move it closer again, and again, and then scratched my disk a bit because it was too close. Then the thing wouldn't read any game consistently. So, addicted to this game I went and bought a PS2 slim. Which.... did the same damn thing after another 20 hours, then I did the tweak and got another 15hrs. I don't know why but I didn't take the damn thing back. The guy who sold it to me offered me some extra insurance saying all the slims had big problems with their optical drives, but my friend had had one for over a year already with no problems. Looking back the thing should have had a year warranty as everything does, but I was still a bit young and naive, so I just threw in the towel and didn't want to deal with it. I was about 90% through the game from just having a sense of things :(

Anyway, been thinking about setting up an emulator to play it on my PC. Hell, I have two dead PS2's I can grab the serial code thing from. But, as nice as the emulated game can look, the textures really bring it down. A HD remake would be so much better.

  6. How did you manage that twice? I have a 10 year old fat PS2 that still just about reads discs if you ask it nicely, it was modded about halfway through that, a slightly less old fat that reads perfectly well and a slim that's been in my luggage for a couple of 12 hour flights that works fine too.

  7. I have no idea, just bad luck or FFXII was loading was very prone to it? It read other games fine until a while into FFXII, then when that happened I think I tested some other games and they would work at least half the time, whereas FFXII wouldn't work at all after a while. Adjusting the laser bought me some time but not much. Maybe the fact that I scratched the disk on the last time made the disc harder to read so that is what the slim struggled with... then again I remember my friends PS2 slim still read it fine. Just shitty luck I think :(

  8. I actually got to the end end boss of the game and died on its last bit of health and never tried again as had other games. So close yet so far.

I would Emu it but FFXII one of the graphics heavy games on PS2 my Laptop would not be able to run it. I just manage to run Shadow hearts and that an early PS2 game.

  9. I'm in no hurry to emulate it either as my Core 2 quad isn't the quickest thing around. If I'm going to put up with emulation and all the buggyness that will surely ensue, it might as well run completely smooth!

  10. My i3 4GB ram quad core is fast enough to run it, but my crappy Intel HD 3000 built in card lets it down. That said I would get a i7 8GB ram and a great graphics card just to be safe and of course to crank up all the settings to be able to play it at 60fps and have it look better than it did on the PS2. ;)

  11. This looks so good..

I played ffx for a long time then had to sell it to pay for food.. it brings back bitter memories. I can't wait to play it on the psp while having a shit, that for me would be a sign i've made it..

  12. Baha! Wow, your tale of misfortune certainly wins this round. I have nothing on that.

  13. Looks as great running in motion. No look at FFX-2 but it will most probably look the same.

  14. First screens of FFX-2 now out. Looks as good as X.

  15. I just had a thought, will they re-render the FMV in higher resolution for this HD re-release? I would assume they would, given the HD namesake. I just wonder how easy that would be... whether they had already outputted them to 1080p for their own purposes (1080p was already the current standard for digital film at the time) or how easy it would be to re-render the FMV now due to software/OS compatibility etc. I'm sure it wouldn't be too big of an issue for them, everyone would be pretty disappointed if they didn't make the FMV HD.

Looking back at some of the FMV, in a lot of ways it really isn't too far ahead of current games. It really amazed me how good it looked at the time.

  16. I would imagine it's not more difficult than converting a tv show to HD.

  17. Do any HD remakes have FMV that has been re rendered and not upscaled?

  18. Wow. So depressing to know this game is 12 years old now.... I probably put just under 70 hours into it, 60+ of which was spent on the goddamn Chcocobo race.

  19. That's an apples and oranges comparison. I don't think you grasp the difference between something that is purely digital and something originally analogue that has been converted to digital once for DVD and again at a higher resolution.

Digital gets the best results, unless all of the content was shot digitally at a certain resolution (SW:Ep2 etc). In this case, the content is entirely 3D rendered, so they simply need to render the video at the higher resolution - easy and the best results possible. BUT, are they going to bother doing this? How easy is it for them to do this? Can they bring those old scenes into their current rendering software and just render them? I'm thinking there will be compatibility issues. Hopefully, these issues are easy to solve, or they originally rendered the scenes at 1080p at the time (or some time shortly after) for their own internal use. Either way, I'll be slightly disappointed if they just upscale the old scenes.

  20. Considering Pixar had issues with corruption for the original toy story when they redid it for 3D, I'd imagine square enix probably don't even have the original files in their entirety, if they bothered keeping them at all.
