Will Ferrell is awful. I've never found him to be funny on Saturday Night Live. I couldn't tell you about his movies because I could never sit through one. SNL used to be a hilarious show back in the days of Dan Ackroyd, Steve Martin, Belushi, Curtin, ect.
SNL has been horrible, unfunny crap for at least 20 years now. I have no idea why it's still on the air. Actually I agree with arma on this. Most of what passes for comedy now is shit. People like Will Ferrell, Zack G, and Kristen Wig aren't funny. They just shout a lot and act awkward. And the writing in most comedy films is horrid. I'm pretty sure you can thank Judd Apatow for that. The humor doesn't derive from the situations presented in the films. Instead it's from random pop culture references and the actors getting awkward and shouty. That style of humor is cheap and anyone can do it. Some examples of the shout and act awkward school of comedy: -Anchorman -Talladega Nights -40 Year Old Virgin -Knocked Up -Hangover and Hangover 2 -Bridesmaids
yes lets dissect comedy some more! It's an opinion assholes we don't all think the same. I have NO clue what everybody's laughing at half the time but some of the time I end up catching on at the end. The thing is though, there are too many funny guys, lots that we could easily do without. But you all act like comedy is dead.
All films that are complete shit and not funny. I'm not saying comedy is dead, I'm saying a lot of people seem to be ok with the currently prevailing form of comedy being total crap. Here are some examples of films that I actually do find funny: Compare that to this shit:
wow you point to one 'feminine-esque' pick up line joke and you point to movies like Hot Shots wow. ok so the question is not whether or not you have a funny bone the question is whether or not you have the intelligence to know when a joke is up your allie or clearly intended for a different audience. I feel sorry for those that lack that kind of discretion. not only are they mad little individuals but their just so un-funny too.
A few films I consider good comedies: -Little Miss Sunshine -The Big Lebowski -Shaun of the Dead -Groundhog Day -Ghostbusters -Office Space -A Fish Called Wanda -Trading Places -Silver Linings Playbook -City Island The difference between these movies and most of what now passes for comedy is that the humor is derived from cleverly devised situations and good comedic timing and delivery, not people shouting bizarre things or making random pop culture references.
Funny Movies Ace Ventura Ghostbusters CaddyShack The Hangover Dirty Rotten Scoundrels National Lampoon Vacation Three Amigos There's Something About Mary Planes, Trains, and Automobiles The Naked Gun Airplane Anchorman
Naked Gun has some funny scenes up there... could never stand an entire movie though. Airplane was funny though. IT Croud always cracks me up... I say that cuz I was just watching a clip. Anyway guys like Farrel are simply (usually) centered on a different audience. I don't usually find him funny at first but sometimes I chuckle a bit when I get the joke... he's a real screwball sometimes. Others he's just not funny but I still think he's one of the better comedic actors. Pick up lines and other such feminine jokes you obviously have to have discretion with. Actually the butt of that joke was that he smelt like poo in the end and you enjoy the fart jokes so I don't see... I think your just jealous UHF is the only movie that I actually HAVE and that says a LOT. That movie gets me every time.
I like when they jump out of the supplies closet, "SUPPLIES!!!" Al was holding that joke for a long time, he grew up in Japan.
Hangover1 was good. The big lebowski is a overhyped shitpile of boredom. I didn't know it was even trying to be a comedy.
Two often missed Bill Murray movies that are hilarious are The Man Who Knew Too Little What About Bob (Richard Dreyfuss outperforms here) Greedy - Michael J Fox movie from the early 90s most people have never seen.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was a better paced comedy in comparison to The Big Lebowski. I actually use that film in real life, to gauge the reliability of a persons film recommendation. For example: "OMG Skyfall is the best Bond movie ever, you need to see it" [Have you ever seen Big Lebowski? "YES!!! One of my favorite movies evvvvaarrr!!" VAC Banned
