So what's been the pick of the litter this year? I've still got some games to come but I think it'd have to be Earth Defence Force 2025 for me. Even though I absolutely fucking hate it now, it was brilliant fun. Just killed too many giant bees to go near it again. Maybe. Yes, definitely. But hey, enough about me. What do YOU think? What game has vomitted joy into your heart this year?
I read game of the year, but the first thing that popped into my mind was also Interstellar. I think the online consensus will probably be Destiny, but I've had the most fun playing Infamous.
Hang on, you've got a playstation? Why aren't you on my PSN list, eh? Forgot about Destiny. I think that could've been great but it just was way too much of a grind for me. And the story was nonsensical.
I had a PS3/360, but played almost exclusively on XboxLive. My brother got a PS4 bundle with Infamous & Destiny on black Friday. Pretty much the only console gaming I've done all year, I preferred Infamous. Now that I think about it I'm not sure my vote should be counted... I'll default to Interstellar.
Apparently The Game Awards was a big deal this year with 1.93 million viewers. Dragon Age: Inquisition won game of the year. I have to give my vote to Titanfall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlLvCLP2h84#t=594 List of all the winners for all categories. http://arcadesushi.com/dragon-age-and-nintendo-win-big-at-the-game-awards-2014/
It might have something to do with the regular release intervals. People love regular release hits like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Halo, but we all know there is another one coming out soon. It's been almost 4 years since the last Witcher game so there has been plenty of time to talk about it and build it up. It's also being released for the PlayStation this time which means guaranteed publicity. Not having an Elder Scrolls release anywhere near it doesn't hurt either.
Serious post: Titanfall or Shadow of Mordor Titanfall was the most fun I've had with a multiplayer shooter in years. And Shadow of Mordor is the game Ass Creed has been trying to be for years, but couldn't quite pull off.
Except that Witcher 2 and Uncharted 3 both came out in 2011, so there's not much of difference in terms of release schedules. Maybe the thinking is that multi-platform means higher anticipation? The past sales figures and critical reception certainly aren't any better.
I kind of debated that too. Titanfall is pure fun but of course it's repetitive and has no meaningful content. However after careful consideration I might have to change my vote to Gone Home. It came out in 2013 but the console version just came out last quarter. A lot of people hated that game but that's only because they are neanderthals. IGN and Gamespot gave it a 95.
I thought it had one of the best stories in a game ever. Of course it's not so much the story but how it was told so indirectly. It's never given to you. You have to piece it together and make a lot of assumptions. Have you ever looked at friends seen an untold story based on small clues? You may not know much from just a single person but if you knew their partners, family, and friends, you could put all the pieces together. That's how the game works. It's also got a 90s nostalgia vibe that can be appreciated if you lived through it. The game is pretty polar. Either you hate it for being devoid of anything fun or you'll fall into it's somewhat creepy and engrossing atmosphere.
Is Gone Home the game that references System Shock? I forgot about Shadows of Mordor - that was a purchase this christmas then? I liked the sound of the emergent rivalries and battles.
If you like the new Batman games or Ass Creed, Shadow of Mordor is a must buy. I'm seeing lots of text and no mention of whether the game has
Um yeah. I didn't actually know that until I checked but I guess they take place in the same universe.
