Can't answer that question for you, but if you want to see how this plays out: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/jqyp3/one_of_the_guys_at_work_went_to_best_buy_saturday/ One of the TouchDroid devs showed up there and told him to contact them.
I'm guessing 50/50 fake. The guy claims it came that way. Very odd. BN canceled my order so I'll be looking for another. HP says they have a bunch more coming.
So what's the story on that? Was HP experimenting at one point with putting Android on the Touchpad hardware?
http://rootzwiki.com/content.php?r=234-EXCLUSIVE-CyanogenMod-7-On-the-HP-TouchPad CM7, specifically 7.1, booting on the touchpad. It's been only 10 days since this thing went on the firesale. Not a surprise that the CM team hit actual progress faster than the TouchDroid scrubs.
They're still randomly showing up in all sorts of places. For example, Newegg just started sending out emails to people who signed up for auto-notify on their site for the touchpad that they were are in line for them. They're going to start contacting those people tomorrow to place orders. And all throughout last week, they were showing up at Best Buys. They might be showing up again at hp.com in the future.
Newegg has also been removing them from price alerts so who knows what that means. I've been following HP Twitter feed so hopefully they'll know when they are ready to sell.
Fucking hell I hate HP's website sometimes. Didn't have Webjet Admin installed on this PC and downloading it was a real pain. I had to sign into HP (with an ID and password it took me a few minutes to remember) and fill out a damned questionnaire before it would let me get anywhere near downloading it. And then they send me an email invoice for $0. Why do they have to make everything so difficult?
I knew the person that use to designed an operated their printer web site. She eventually quit and opened a tanning salon.
I'm seeing rumors on news sites today that HP may be firing yet another CEO and installing Meg Whitman, former CEO of EBay and also an HP board member. Bizarre.
I understand HP wanting to do a huge rebuilding but they seriously need to manage their current public image better. Alot of people are looking at HP right now thinking that the company has no idea what they're doing. The order of their changes is so chaotic. Acquire Palm. Release webos devices. HP Touchpad has bad sales within a few weeks of launch so discount it by a ridiculous amount and eat the loss while announcing change in company focus. A month later, lay off a bunch of employees and change CEO.
Yeah, and Meg Whitman doesn't necessarily seem like a good alternative. Perhaps she's just an executive brand name that they think will stop a stock slide.
