SO my VF contract ends on 29th July (And they did give me credit for sending the back phone so I ended up with double credit and have infact not paid for the last month of my contract). Anywho, I need to make my mind up on what I am doing next. At the moment I am thinking of going on a 1 month SIM only deal with one of the cheaper providers, here are my options GiffGaff - 250 Mins, Unlimited Texts, Unlimited Data (7GB/month) - £10/month (O2) Tesco - 500 Mins, 5000 Texts, 500MB Data - £12.50/Month (O2) Virgin - 250 Mins, Unlimited Texts, 1GB Data - £10/Month (T-Mobile/Orange) Three - 300 Mins, 3000 Texts - 1GB Data - £12.50/Month (3) Three - 300 Mins, 3000 Texts - Unlimited Data £15/Month I have ordered a free GiffGaff SIM which should take a couple of days to get to me but the others I can pick up in store if I choose those. Virgin probably have the best signal seeing as they have the combined networks of T-Mobile and Orange but GiffGaff offer the best value for your money and O2 are pretty good. I was on O2 for 5+ years before I had Vodafone and my wife is on them. I am a bit dubious of Three because of the horror stories you hear about the network. Any suggestions?
Carphone Warehouse are doing a deal on the Galaxy SIII that I like the look of. £49 phone price £26/month on T-Mobile 300 Minutes Unlimited Text 750MB data How comes Carphone Warehouse can offer such cheaper rates than the networks themselves? Think its worth a punt? OR I could get an iPhone 4S for Free phone £31/Month Vodafone 300 Minutes Unlimited Text 500MB Data The only thing with this is that I should probably wait until the 5 comes out as there may be a little price drop unless they have already done so in anticipation. I don't really want an iPhone for any other reason than it has better games than Android.
Data isn't a lot I'd say. Isn't it cheaper to buy the phone outright then get a sim only deal? And what's the storage on those phones?
Apparently it comes in 16gb and 32gb versions, with a 64gb coming out later. My friend's S3 seems to have 11gb free out of the box.
galaxy s III has micro sd expandable storage too. If you really don't need a phone now. just wait till October/November and you'll have iphone 5 and probably another nexus phone as choices. you're pretty much in high end territory now with your current predicament.
I don't use mobile data, so far this month (15 days) I have used 3MB. I have wifi at home and work. I have my parents, in-laws and friends wifi networks all saved too. If I am going to pay £500 for the phone then I am waiting for the 5.
What do you guys think about the HTC One V? It is exactly the same spec as my Nexus One (1GHz, 512 RAM) except it has more storage and runs Android 4.0. Can get it free for £18.50/month and my Nexus One now has for the third time the issue where the power button is failing. Had it repaired twice but as the phone is now older than 2 years it is out of warranty. The one thing that worries me is 512 RAM and Android 4.0, is it enough? Especially with Sense on top. EDIT: Scrap that, I can get the Xperia P for free for £18.50/month as well. EDIT EDIT: Called them to sort it out and he couldn't find that price on the system, so I told him I wouldn't bother. I can see it clear as day online but I already have a contract with O2 and my landline and BB so wanted to tie it up. Not going to do it online as it will probably end up as a separate thing. EDIT EDIT EDIT: Or I could get a Lumia 800 for £18.50/month and go all Windows. I know Windows Phone 8 is coming out soon but I expect the phones will be very expensive but the Lumia looks nice and Windows Mobile does seem a nice OS when you use it in shops.
I'd stay away from anything single core and with anything less than 1GB ram unless you're basically getting it for free.
Yeah I have decided to but not because I feel it would be slow, more because I don't like the idea of being tied in for 2 years on something I know is no better than my Nexus One. I have had a look around and to be honest nothing really jumps out at me, there seems to be a distinct lack of mid ranged phones around, its either very cheap or very expensive. I am going to wait another month or so and maybe go have a play with the Windows 8 phones when they come out. I do like Windows Phone 7.5, it feels nice and the live tiles work well and the new HTC and Nokia phones look very nice. Will see where things are mid November.
Don't get a windows phone 7.5 device. That logic is the same as you getting that HTC One V which you talked yourself out of. WP7.5 will be dropped and and you'll be out of the loop from any software upgrades that happen. You're better off getting a low end WP8 device if you want to go the WP8 route.
I'm not getting a 7.5 phone, it was an option. I am waiting until Nov to try out the WP8 stuff. I like android but there is a very limited range of phones available at the moment and none of them seem to sit in the middle, its all top end or low end.
In all truthfulness, I'd say the Galaxy Nexus is a mid-range phone. Mediocre camera, mediocre display, dated soc. Cutting edge software though.
Galaxy Nexus is basically a un-badged AOSP Galaxy S2. It was too much phone for you to handle already.
I wouldn't go that far. Galaxy S II: 4.3" Super AMOLED+ (non-pentile) 800x480 display Exynos 4210 soc 16GB internal storage with expandable micro-sd slot 8MP excellent camera Galaxy Nexus: 4.65" Super AMOLED HD (pentile) 1280x720 display OMAP 4460 soc 16 internal storage with no micro-sd slot 5MP mediocre camera NFC
I had an SII but didn't like the fact it was already quite old when I got it so sent it back. Also feel that ICS was kind of slapped on with no real attempt to make it look good on the SII. I am very picky. For example the HTC One S I had was a really nice phone but I had to send it back because it couldn't hold signal when I picked it up. Its got to be perfect if it is costing me that much money.
I think you use being picky as an excuse to not buy a phone. Perhaps, because you are a world class cheapskate!
