iOS Gaming

  1. It sounds similar in a lot of ways to the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games.

  2. It's actually fairly different, as Phoenix Wright isn't a "hit points" style game like this one. In Devil's Attorney, you literally don't need to know anything about the cases. It's entirely about choosing the line of attack that will deduct points and eliminate witnesses and evidence before your own points get to zero.

  3. Anyone played Dungeon Defenders? I saw GUNNS playing the PC version a few months ago and just realised it's out on PC, Xbox, PS3, iOS and I think Android. It's been out for a year or so but it's worth mentioning. The game is basically a tower defence game where you roam a 3D level using mana to construct your defences, then the wave begins and you just destroy the enemies. There's a pretty robust loot system in the game too. There's many different variations of armour and weaponary to be had and it handily tells you whether it's worth picking up or not with an indicative square outline near the object, green = better than equipped and red = worse.

The best way I can describe it is it has the wave based combat like Horde from Gears and Zombies from COD, it has the constant upgrading of armour and weapons like Borderlands and a decent levelling system where you spend points to upgrade your character or your defences. There's the usual line up or characters available. Warrior, Mage, Monk, Rogue(?), each with their own pros and cons as you might expect. As with Borderlands I suspect this game is much more fun with friends, I reckon this would be a good choice for Monsly Chi and Grim.

And it's only £1.99 (iOS version).

  4. A rather nice looking Star Fox-ish game that is supposed to be close to release...Arc Squadron.

  5. marketing should start off with 'it's much easier to do a barrel roll with a 9 inch touchscreen than it is on a home console here's proof!!'

  6. A while ago I spent ages half heartedly trying to get carmageddon on my laptop with limited success, there was no sound. Well I found out today that its out on the App Store for £1.99.

I've only played a bit of the first stage but it seems to be a perfect port of the original pc classic, with the splat pack as it's peds you're mowing down instead of zombies. Here's some screen caps I took.

They've included the map with a right swipe
    [IMG]
And even the replay feature with a left swipe. You can save your clips.

Classic game, now portable and cheap as chips.

  7. I got that free the other day. Seemed pretty shit to me but I've not got any nostalgic connection to it.

  8. I really loved it back in the day so I'm really glad they made this perfect port. I also loved Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now and Carmageddon: The Death Race 2000. Great games. They're based on the film Death Race 2000, a hilariously bad film.

  9. Borderlands Legends is coming for iOS? I don't remember hearing about it before.

  10. The "waves of enemies" bit makes it sound like an arena type game.

Could be interesting but there's no mention of co-op

  11. Yeah, I don't think there were any prior rumors about it. It will be interesting to see how similar/different it is from other franchise tie-in's for mobile like Mass Effect: Infiltrator.

  12. It's gone killzone: liberation on us. It's a top down shooter.

  13. Not what I was expecting! Interesting though...if it plays similarly to things like Battleheart, I'll be sold on it.

  14. It turns out its really hard to win races on carmageddon by killing all the pedestrians as the opponents just kill themselves on me.

I got over 400 peds killed and had over 30 minutes on the clock then the one remaining enemy rammed me, wasting himself. It's annoying when you're trying to not complete a level a certain way but the game just wins the level for you, what a waste time.

  15. What I want to know is how far along they are with their new Carmageddon game.

  16. Their website says Carmageddon Reincarnated should be out Q1 2013. Really looking forward to it.

  17. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is going to be released on "select" iOS and Android devices as part of an anniversary celebration by Rockstar. I'm guessing the baseline for iOS will be A5 devices.

  18. Well, according to TouchArcade, Borderlands: Legends should be avoided...it's actually one of the more harsh game reviews that I've seen on their site!

  19. GTA3 didn't work on my 3GS but my iPad can run it. It look sgorgeous on my iPhone 4S, much better than the PS2 original, it's just a shame the controls could have been a bit better, they're a little fiddly and lcunky at the same time, awkward is the word I was looking for. Totally buying the Vice City 10 year anniversary edition. Looking forward to 2014 when it;s the 10th year anniversary of San Andreas, one of my all time favourite games.

  20. I deleted that off my iPad and 4s recently. Looked nice but was a complete pig to control. Shame.
