what are we talkin about, 5 days versus 3 days or somethin?? Battery life isn't much of a concern with these devices... for me. I don't have a Nook though, I bought it for my brother... he actually reads books lol.
Ended up getting an iPad 2 - wife bought it yesterday so I need to set it up soon. More news at eleven.
Seems pretty pricey to me but she's been after one for a while and we've saved a fair wedge of cash recently so I caved in. The ironic thing about shopping yesterday was we were meant to be getting ME something. I got precisely fuck all in the end.
I've had a change of heart about Macs. I think for stupid people, the elderly, and women, they're probably a good choice. They can take it to the genius desk when they invariably fuck something up and you don't end up playing IT guy all the time.
Apple has AirMusic for free today. It allows streaming of music from your iGadget to PS3, xBox, PC... http://itunes.apple.com/app/airmusic/id409782234?cjid=10492644-1225267-u542513t0f0fp55170dd0c0s5814
You can use a low power device like your ios device instead (ipod touch, iphone, ipd)? Don't have a laptop? You have a laptop but don't put your music on it? Plenty of reasons.
I've only had a chance to try it for a short time but it's pretty impressive indeed. Very quick and slick - it's far faster than any laptop I've used for starting up and browsing the web works really well. The few iPad apps and games I've used are pretty cool and the screen is really nice. Setting up was straightforward as hell. Not sure I'd say it would be worth the money to me but I can see the appeal, certainly.
As with all apple products it's stupidly overpriced but it's damn cool to use, well, the first one is. I can't imagine the second one being all that different.
To be fair, that price issue isn't exclusive to apple and its ipad. Honeycomb (read android) tablets are just as bad if not worse. The blackberry Playbook and HP webos tablets hover around that price too.
That's true. I was on about all apple products in general though, they might as well have a Ferrari badge on them. I was looking at the iPhone 4 from apple's own website and the price of a middle range 16gb model START from £512. Simply ridiculous.
This was an interesting article focusing on the CEO of EA games about where he thinks the gaming industry is headed. Basically he's talking about the Wii U, as well as the iPad and devices that are similar. It's interesting because it's not all that different from what I was saying previously about the console industry: that it's likely the "box under the TV" model is already on it's way out, and portable devices that can also interact with the big screen are looking more like the future.
Consoles are 40% of the games market compared to 80% 10 years ago? Hmmmm. What accounts for that difference then? Mobile gaming? Handhelds? Seems a big difference. Not sure what'll happen with consoles myself. I think stuff like the iPhone and iPad have really changed my gaming habits on the move. Don't really bother with my handhelds as much anymore.
I haven't used handheld consoles since I was a child. It's like going back in time. I want to play games on the current generation of consoles but if I were to pick up a handheld it would be like going back 5 years, only smaller. I don't see the iphone or ipad as a serious threat to consoles since the whole interface is no substitute for a controller. Also, consoles only make up 40% of the market? I smell bull. But even if that were true that 40% is still way more than any one of the consoles' competitors. If I want to play a game, I'll do it properly with real controls that work and you can actually feel in your hand, not this virtual analogue stick crap. Anyway, you guys seen this? It's an ipad 2 that costs $8million. Why does it cost 8 million dollars? Because it's apparently solid gold, encrusted with diamonds and the home button is made of real Tyranosaurus Rex thigh bone shards. Biggest wast of money (and T-Rex bones) ever? http://www.bitrebels.com/technology/8-million-dollar-ipad-2-incorporates-dinosaur-bones/
There isn't really a barrier to using a standard controller. And you can already connect devices like the iPad or iPhone to your TV, so it's really just substituting a portable device for the immobile box-under-the-TV standard. You just need a wireless or wired connection from the portable to your TV, and a wireless connection between the controller and the portable.
