Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Portable tablet hardware can already EASILY run the types of applications that most consumers and most business people use on a regular basis. Email + web browsing? Check. Word processing? Check. Spreadsheets + presentations? Check. Virtual desktops? Check. Photos + video? Check. And now it looks like tablet hardware is easily in line with gaming consoles as well.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Word processing or spreadsheets without a keyboard? Ewwww.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Because they aren't ideal for productivity and content creation vs. a similarly priced laptop so their actual use beyond recreation is limited. Essentially they are buying something less capable and less flexible because it's seen as 'cooler'.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) eh, most of the ppl I know are profesional content creators. How well can it run photoshop? When Apple comes out with an ipad that's more than just a glorified etch-a-sketch they might be interested. Actually most of them are iSheep anyway so they mostly got ipads already... but they only use it to surf internet, stream movies and play casual games.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Do you really think Photoshop or the Creative Suite is used by the typical consumer or business person? You're talking about what cmdrmonkey is talking about: specialized, high-end uses. The vast majority of consumers and business people don't buy computers for those kinds of uses.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Type 'iPad keyboard' into a search engine and see what you get.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Just like cmdrmonkey and pdraggy, you're talking about high-end uses that aren't actually needed by the vast majority of consumer and business buyers. Does your neighbor need Final Cut Pro to edit their vacation video? Does a salesperson need to run the Creative Suite to make a sale? Portable chipsets will eventually catch up to those kinds of uses anyway, but for now the iPad covers the majority of computing needs for the general public already.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Like I said, try a web search for 'iPad keyboard' and see what comes up...
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Not talking high end, I'm just talkin about most the ppl I know! Most of the average blue collar guys I know don't really need a computer at all. I would be one of them, and I downgraded to a netbook cuz wasting money on something that can do video editing or photo editing (things I do in my free time), but not as well as my desktop, is rather dumb. Some of them do need a computer and a tablet IS all they need correct (I have a buddy who uses his tablet to shuffle appointments and he says he would DIE without his ipad. I'm sure he's exaggeratin but I am also sure he can use the extra ease of not having to boot up the laptop every time or fumblin with his phone while he waits for the next phone call, cuz he gets like 5 gazillion (it's a real word!) a day), but some of them are also journalism or creative apprentice/ students that not yet own the fleet of cars that would dub them 'high end'. I'm SURE the world could do without tablets, I see no proof why not. But the proof is in the puddin, their using them right now. I doubt if the amount of users that actually use it in an indispensable fashion would amount to over %5 though... and that's bein generous. Currently most of the ipad owners are just iSheep, sure it might shave a second or two off of waking a notebook from sleep it may also save a dollar or two (or three! this savings is probly pretty decent) managing said iBook with built in battery that doesn't last as long due to the x86 architecture. A tablet IS all they need, it's better than a phone and more portable and easier to manage than a notebook. But it's not indespensible, evolutionary not revolutionary. I'd deem it a waste of time. But most iSheep have the money and go for it any way and more power to them! They may have just shaved a few seconds from what they have to do. WHEN an ipad can handle photo editing on the fly (it needs a photoshop app first!) and probably external media to write your files to (Bluetooth 4 is not enough for today just not prevalent enough) I'm sure it'd become something more than a fad. Right now it's pretty worthless for any kind or real work. I mean how is a journalist really gonna get any real work done when all he has is a notepad really.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Can you use it on your lap on the couch?
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) I'm not talking about high-end income. I'm talking about high-end applications like Adobe's Creative Suite or Apple's Final Cut Pro or Autodesk's Maya. Those are still a ways down the road for tablets like the iPad, but most consumer and business users don't buy computers for those kinds of uses. iPad already has "on the fly" photo and video editing software, and a very wide variety of wired and wireless keyboard accessories. Just as a comparison, when Apple released the first MacBook Pro back in early 2006, it had a dual core CPU, a single core GPU, and was typically sold with either 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM (expandable to 2 GB). The latest iPad has a dual core CPU, quad core GPU, and 1 GB of RAM.
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) Can a wireless keyboard sit in your lap?
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) I heard the iPad 4 is coming out soon. Should I wait or get the iPad 3?
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) There's a ton of accessories for the ipad.. so if you aren't sure if it has it.. it probably has it. http://clamcase.com/clamcase-ipad-2-keyboard-case-black.html
Re: The New Ipad (Ipad 3? what the hell is the name of this thing) How do I say this again... most of the ppl I know NEED those kind of programs for work. Most of the rest can get by with no computer other than their work pc/ mac. This argument is getting nowhere really so let me ask you this, what CAN you do with an iPad and do you honestly know anybody that's doing something with it they couldn't do with an iPhone or Macbook? Laptops (Macbooks) can be mobile computing devices, smartphones (iPhone) can obviously make phone calls (plus handle the VERY light mobile computing easier than laptops). What claim does an iPad have? I don't think it does ANYTHING new thus I call it a gimmick. Obviously there is no argument that the iPad doesn't sell well, I just don't think the world NEEDS it.
