Are you exaggerating? lolo. A desktop user's windows directory is probably 20GB. If Apple was expecting all of their users to download an ios update at 20GB per person.. that'd be insane. ios 5 is about 700MB for ipad (780MB for iphone). That's not too bad. That runs in line with the sizes of factory images of OEM android firmware. Some being bigger, such as the Galaxy S III at ~1GB. Stock android is much smaller (factory images size of jelly bean for Galaxy Nexus is ~230MB). Plus, iphones and ipads start at 16GB and ipod touches at 8GB. iirc, ios handles its partitions much better than android does. the apps are stored on the storage partition rather than os.
