Just completed Persona 4 Golden. Amazing RPG!! Now to play new game plus to mop up the trophys for platinum and to do a few things I missed first time aroumd.
Just finished Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the first time. A great little Uncharted on the Vita and could be quite epic at times. Will be trying for platinum along with Persona 4's if possible.
Completed Bulletstorm. Was a lot of fun but I think it went downhill a bit in the second half and the ending felt somewhat anti-climatic. I'd recommend it for the dirt cheap price it costs nowadays - at its best, there's a great combat system and a wonderful game world as a background. Just a shame the pacing tails off. The other game I completed was Machinarium. An unusual take on the point and click genre - a beautiful story and setting and a brilliant soundtrack to go with it. A relatively short game but all the better for it. A pity some of the mini-games along the way feel a bit lacking but it was a fantastic experience and one I'd recommend fully.
Far Cry 3 The story missions anyway. Overall, despite my complaints about the story, I still had quite a bit of fun playing it. I don't think I really got tired of it until the 30 hour mark or so. The Dragon's Lair style semi-finale with Hoyt was annoying enough that I looked up the button pattern online! The end of the game also reveals what they were trying (and failing) to get at per the story: it's essentially...VERY MINOR SPOILER...a half-assed retread of Apocalypse Now, where Jason Brody transforms into the Martin Sheen character and Hoyt is supposed to be the equivalent of Colonel Kurtz. They've got multiple Wagner 'Ride of the Valkyries' references, and after you kill Hoyt the privateers say "I'm going to terminate you with extreme prejudice" at the airfield, which is a reference to the Harrison Ford line at the beginning of Apocalypse. Also, the Rakyat and Citra stuff is a bit like the tribe that worshipped Kurtz in Cambodia...the ultimate warrior who's gone mad.
Saints Row The Third This game was one of my biggest surprises in gaming history. I really expected to hate it and only bought it because it was part of a multiple game package. However, the longer I played the more I liked it. I wont recommend it to anyone because it's really a matter of personal taste but if you like comic mayhem, pointless violence, moral depravity, and beating people with giant purple dildos, you may enjoy this game. I'd give it a 9/10.
Crysis 3 The graphics are some of the best I've ever seen, and they scale well. Even on medium, this is still one of the best looking games out there. The campaign is pretty good, but it's way too short and easy. There are only 7 missions. I think I finished the entire game in 7 or 8 hours. I had a lot of fun with the bow. On the highest tensile strength, you can pin enemies to walls and shoot down helicopters. But I also think the bow makes the game too easy. You can stay cloaked most of the time, and just pick off a few key enemies that are in your way. The boss fights aren't particularly hard. Just overlong and kind of annoying. It wraps up the Crysis storyline. You get to see the aliens and the evil PMC get their just desserts. I think the biggest problem with this game is that there just isn't enough new content here to justify the $60 price tag. It feels like an expansion pack for Crysis 2. I'd say pick it up when it gets cheap. It's fun, but it isn't worth anything close to full price. EA really should be selling this for $29.99 like Crysis Warhead. 7/10
Max Payne 3 Great story Great narrative Great graphics Well designed environments Really repetitive combat The story is the reason to play Max Payne 3. The combat is so repetitive that it just feels like unnecessary interruptions in the great story telling. 6/10
There were a few sections of Max Payne 3 that were just way too difficult for no particularly good reason. I also thought the save points were poorly spaced out, leading to many frustrating situations where I kept dying and having to reload. I liked it, mostly for the story, graphics, and soundtrack; but it felt like a game that wasn't play tested enough.
I agree. Certain battles were very frustrating and a few more save points would have been nice. The soundtrack was nice but sometimes I didn't think it matched the game play.
Wonderbook It was a great birthday present for my 7 years old daughter. I wish I had such games when we were young. Now my younger daughter also tries to play it.
Looks a bit similar but with crazy powers mixed in. I'll be getting it anyway - the third was so much fun that more of the same isn't a problem.
What did you think about the ending of The Third? It was the only part of the game I didn't care for.
I've never played a saint row game. I first heard about it when sr2 came out and I dismissed it as a bad GTA wannabe. Then the third game came out an it looked like mad fun. Still, I don't think I'll bother with the series at this point.
The third was pretty good fun. I wouldn't pay full price for number 4 but will probably dip my toe in later. Hopefully it'll have a decent multiplayer
