Last Game You Completed?

  1. Journey on PS4. It's a work of art as I'd expected. Only got a couple of trophies left to get but their ass backwards thinking means there's no matchmaking, so the trophies that demand another player are a real pain in the butt. Enjoyable little game though for what it is.

  2. Psychonauts. Few years late. I don't understand why everyone likes the milk man though.

  3. Tales of Berseria. Another good tales game but this time I took a while to finish It.

  4. The last guardian. Camera is wonky with an annoying zone but the game is beautiful and lives up to my expectations.

Gravity Rush 2. A good game with a fun gameplay mechanic but it's let down by tedious follow and stealth missions.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. The free running is fun but the story is a little bland and those time limited dashes suck.

Day of the tentacle. Never finished this back in the day. The puzzles are annoyingly convoluted.

  5. Far Cry Primal

    Starts at a C- and ends at a B+.

  6. Ryse: Son of Rome

This game was a decent launch title for the Xbox 1. It looks good, it's easy for anyone to play, and it has an engaging story. What I didn't like was how the game was 100% on a rail. Watch the story, move forward, kill 20 bad guys, watch the story, move forward, kill 20 bad guys, repeat. There are only a handful of enemies that are used over and over again and each one is defeated by the same attack pattern. It's sort of like a 3D version of the original Double Dragon. It's very repetitive. Most of my deaths happened after a day of not playing and forgetting the correct click sequences. There were also some serious PC port issues. 6/10

  7. Horizon: Zero Dawn:

Brilliant game with quite an interesting story. Still have the platinum and side quests ect to do.

I feel the same way about Rise of the Tomb Raider: great graphics, interesting story, some cool puzzles and enemy encounters. But also way too much filler with bland sidequests and pointless weapon and skill upgrades you'll never use or use like once in the whole game. A big part of the problem with the weapons is like you said, you have to find all the parts to assemble them. So they may not be accessible to you until late game when they no longer matter. I also liked the lush tropical setting of the last Tomb Raider game more than the dreary Siberian setting in this one.

I'd give it a 7.5/10. Good but not great.

  9. Tales from the Borderland

It was more of an interactive movie than a game. I liked it. 8/10.

  10. What Remains of Edith Finch

The game messes with your mind a little. Sort of like Spec Ops: The Line. It's unique and well done but more story than game

    8/10.

  11. Mass Effect: Andromeda

I logged 79 hours on it and completed most every mission. I guess i liked it more than I expected. It might be the weakest in the series but it still has all the goodness of the other 3 games. 7/10.

  12. I'm curious to play through it. I think I got the title confused with Ethan Carter and thought I already had it from a previous Steam Sale. I saw it won Best Narrative in the recent VG awards and am intrigued by this. I typically enjoy games that are well written considerably more than the overhyped, popular garbage many people buy.

  13. I've really been into the narrative-driven adventure games lately. I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting old or if they've gotten so good their worth playing.

  14. I just recently finished these games:

Vanishing of Ethan Carter (Redux Edition)
    Syberia 3
    Detention
    Antichamber
    vvvvvvv
    The Silent Age

Right now I'm playing through Prey (about 10 hours in), Knights of the Old Republic II (about 30 hours in), and Divinity Original Sin 2 (about 100 hours in, this is a looong game).

  15. What did you think of Syberia 3? It was highly anticipated but I don't know why. I played the first and I thought it was a rather obscure game.

  16. Me and my wife played through both Syberia 1 and 2 last year and greatly enjoyed them. Syberia 3 feels a level below those games. The story wasn't as interesting/engaging in 3, and the voice acting is indeed quite bad as most user reviews on Steam would suggest. Thankfully, we got it on sale for like 50% off on GOG, and it was ok enough to play through the end, but I wouldn't give it my top recommendation, it's much more of an "average game", whereas I found the first two to be exceptional in terms of adventure games, so in that respect this newest one is a bit of a letdown.

Now the other games I mentioned, they were all pretty interesting.

Detention - interesting asian theme horror/psychological thriller, but quite short (about 2-4 hours to beat).
Antichamber - Really out there game, hard to explain, but enjoyed this one, it's a brain buster.
Vanishing of Ethan Carter - if you like walking simulator, this is one of the best games I've played. The atmosphere of everything, the graphics and sounds are simply incredible. Possibly best graphics I've seen in a video game.
The Silent Age - awesome 2D adventure game, great story and fun puzzles.

  17. You guys might really like Gone Home and of course What Remains of Edith Finch. Both are very much like the Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

  18. I played though What Remains of Edith Finch in one sitting. It was very enjoyable and well written. I wish it wasn't a DX11 game so I could run it at 2160p, but I enjoyed about everything else. I really liked the "horror" bit and am very familiar with the source they were referencing there. I'm glad I bought it.

  19. Hey bfun, took this advice over the Christmas break and me and my wife completed these:

Life is Strange - amazing story and I loved every moment of it
What Remains of Edith Finch - similar to Vanishing of Ethan Carter as mentioned before, love the characters and the art design

Also completed these ones in the last 3 months:

Uncharted Lost Legacy - if you like Uncharted, you gotta play this, I thought I'd be let down by a spin off, but I ended up loving the characters as I played through it.

Call of Duty WW 2 - this campaign is pretty much what you should expect. WW2 story including D-Day. Very well polished and the characters were pretty memorable in my opinion. It's still fairly linear as previous COD single player campaigns, but this didn't detract in any way for me.

    SW KotoR 1 and 2
Mass Effect 1 and 2 and 3 - wife playing through these first time and I watched her play through them, got to re-live a bit of my earlier gaming years. All of these games still hold up well, and ME1/2/3 have a ton of mods that improve the graphics/gameplay.

  20. The sound track is pretty good too.
