Last movie you saw?

  1. Star Wars: A New Hope

I can't remember the last time I saw this movie all the way through. Maybe like 20 years ago. I discovered two new things watching it this time. The first was that the Empire destroyed the Jawas Sandcrawler. I always thought the tusken raisers destroyed it and that never made sense to me because that crawler is basically a tank and the raiders weren't heavily armed. The second thing I noticed was that Luke used the force to target the Death Star because the targeting computers weren't able to hit the target. I always thought he did it for the hell of it. Also, Princess Leia was more of a bad ass than a victim.

  2. Secret Life of Pets

It was a really cute movie, but most of the best parts were shown in the previews.

    6.5/10

  3. Being John Malkovich

Too weird for me. Didn't care for it. 4/10

    Red 2

    It was good. 7/10

  4. Sicario

The movie basically followed the planning and execution of a single black op mission. The characters react to the mission, from the POV of an idealistic law abiding officer to an ends justify the means, govt sponsored assassin.

Sicario was awesome. It was like half black ops movie, half hitman movie.

  7. Kubo and the Two Strings

Excellent story telling using stop motion animation. 9/10

  8. Vacation

I enjoyed this; lacked a bit of the heart of the original comedies but it was funny overall and I was never bored.

    Paul Blart 2

I don't know why I watched this. It was awful. Not funny at all and lacked any warmth. It really was absolutely dreadful. One of the worst comedies I've ever seen.

  9. Lol Paul Blart 2 belongs in the worst movies of all time thread. It was purpose-less drivel with zero redeeming qualities.

  10. How does Kevin James keep getting roles? Dude is an unfunny fat turd who sucks in everything he's in.

    Star Trek Beyond

This movie had some really dumb parts. You could definitely tell that the Fast and Furious guy directed it. But it also had several great action scenes and enough Trek goodness that it mostly redeemed itself.

Kudos for the Enterprise references. The USS Franklin was supposed to be from that time period, and they did a good job of making it look similar to the NX Class Enterprise. I'm probably one of the few Trek fans who actually watched and enjoyed Enterprise.

  12. The Imitation Game

Alan Touring is considered the father of computer science so when I was in school we solved problems using a Turing Machine. I always thought it was kind of brilliant. Too bad about all the fucked up stuff that happened to him. Great movie. 9/10.

  13. The Infiltrator

Parts of it were a bit boring and slow, but Bryan Cranston's great acting mostly redeemed it.

    6.5/10

  14. Watched Deadpool on TV this time... it's basically 2 hours of 90s - early 00's pop culture references. Caught a bunch this time that I missed in the theater. If you're the right age now, it's not possible to hate on this.

    The Shallows

Blake Lively looked really hot in this movie. There are some nice scenes where the camera zooms in on her boobs and ass in a bikini. It has some legit suspenseful shark attack scenes. But there are also some scenes where the CGI shark looked really fake. Overall it was okay, but Jaws is still a better shark movie.

    6/10

    Lights Out

Boring. Annoying. Not scary. Not original. Do not understand the high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Seems like another case like the Babadook or It Follows where the critics just don't get what makes for a good horror movie.

    3/10

    The Purge Election Year

Same basic premise as previous purge movies, except now politicians are fair game for assassination on purge night. Still pretty entertaining, although I thought Purge 2: Anarchy was a bit better.

    6.5/10

    Hell or High Water

Great movie, especially if you like crime dramas and westerns. Reminded me of No Country For Old Men. Set in West Texas. Two brothers get revenge on a bank that ripped off their dead mother with a predatory reverse mortgage by robbing its branches, and using the money to pay off the reverse mortgage. Jeff Bridges is great as a Texas Ranger.

    8/10

  17. War Dogs

It was just okay. Very clearly trying to be like a cross between the Nic Cage movie Lord of War and Goodfellas. I didn't really find it that shocking. I already knew the US government does business with shady arms dealers to equip its allies, especially when they need to get their hands on Soviet/Russian military equipment.

    6/10

  18. Ghostbusters - 2016

This wasn't nearly as bad as anticipated. It fails as a comedy because 90% of the jokes miss hard. But the ghost-busting was pretty good. Modern effects actually made the paranormal scenes really fun to watch. Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Thor do a good job. Melissa McCarthy and SNL Hillary are tryhards.

It does more justice to the originals then the TMNT reboots.

    5.9/10

  19. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

It was alright. Sound was really good, plot was OK, special effects were a bit iffy at times.

    OK/10

After bfun posted that I reset the balance and watched Ghistbuster almost instantly, very irresponsible of him to watch a film like that to be honest.

  20. Ditto.

    The Nice Guys

Ryan Gosling was great. The directing may have been a little weak. I laughed several times. 8/10
