I haven't seen Commando, it was the one Arnie film I always missed. Did watch the Running Man again last week if that counts.
No Die Hard and no Commando? Wow, you really need to watch them at some point. Have you seen any Die Hard? First and Third are the best ones.
I remember everyone gave me crap for not seeing Commando but I was deprived in my youth and didn't get cable until 1997. By the time I was finally able to watch MTV they'd switched to the Real World reality crap. Sad!
bro I didn't get cable until 2003 and I saw commando 5000 times on local broadcast stations on Saturdays
Well, where I come from they played The Blues Brothers 5000 times on Saturdays so there was no time for Commando.
Arrival I liked that the aliens were legitimately completely alien. Their bodies, language, technology, and way of perceiving time were all completely different. This was the antithesis to Star Trek where the aliens are just guys with prosthetic foreheads and silly outfits who speak English. 7.5/10
Nocturnal Animals I got a David Lynch vibe from this movie. It's a story within a story. Very well written and acted. Highly rapey and murdery though. Probably not the best thing to watch with your wife or girlfriend. It also puts the two hottest redheads in Hollywood, Isla Fisher and Amy Adams, together in the same movie. 8/10
The Water Diviner Good but sad. The true story of a father trying to find the bodies of his sons who were killed at Gallipoli in WWI. It has flashbacks to the battle. I liked that the battle scenes show both the ANZAC and Ottoman perspectives. 7.5/10 - Watch Gallipoli with Mel Gibson, and then watch this to see what happened after the battle.
Legend Tom Hardy is great in a dual role, playing twin gangster brothers, in 1960s London. Beyond that the movie is just OK. These guys are so bad at gangstering it really took me out of the film. Sometimes I lol'd thinking it's a spoof of gangster films. The base story is how two idiots bumble their way to success and one of the falls in love. Not sure how much of it is real... 6/10 - worth watching if you're a Tom Hardy fan
Unbroken Based on an interesting true story, but surprisingly dull and bland as a movie. The first half of the movie drags badly. It gets a little more interesting with the POW stuff, but even then nothing was particularly memorable other than the interactions between Louis Zamperini and the sadistic Japanese prison commander. 5/10
That Japanese guy was an asshole. When the B29 was coming and his fellow officers were committing harekrishna, he dove into a solitary confinement hole and hid under a prisoner. Later he became a yakuza boss who spent all his money building a silver samurai suit to steal Wolverines healing powers. Luckily Wolverine killed him and had sexual relations with his granddaughter.
Logan As an X-Men movie, it's totally depressing. If you ignore the fact that it's an X-Men movie, it's still rather depressing. 8/10
King Kong I saw it on one of those smaller Imax screens which was nice. Most the previous versions have a slow build up to Kong appearing but this one gets to the action pretty quickly. 8/10
Speed 2 Cruise Control This was the dumbest fuckin movie in the history of the planet. The Villain's grand plan is to ram a boat into another boat and ram a dock I think? They couldn't get Keanu so instead it has a cheap lookalike.
