Last movie you saw?

  1. So I think 2-3 years ago I watched an MJ thread play out on Reddit. Objectively, the MJ defenders simply made a better case. I believed for years he was a molester but almost everything I thought I knew was fake news. He was successfully extorted once in the 90s and others tried to duplicate the pay day.

  2. I think MJs mistake was paying people to go away and avoid a legal battle rather than go to court and clear his name. It set him and his estate up for more people to try to extort money from him.

  3. That settlement is why I had always thought he was guilty. But apparently court documents indicate the record label and his insurance company force the settlement and payment against his wishes.

  4. Aquaman

It's the exact same movie as Thor, but with fish people from Atlantis rather than Norse God people from Asgard.

  5. I thought it was more like Black Panther.

Black Panther also follows the same plot.

(insert superhero) is the reluctant heir to (insert mythical and technologically advanced kingdom). He fights his sorta brother (half brother, adopted brother, cousin, whatever) who wants to use the power of that kingdom for evil.

Aquaman was cheesy but entertaining. I had to watch Black Panther in multiple sittings because it was so boring. Thor was just okay.

  7. Thor Ragnarok is a standout movie if you haven't seen it. I have serious superhero fatigue but it's one of only 3 distinct MCU movies.

    Ironman
    Guardians of the Galaxy
    Thor Ragnarok

The rest just blend together to me. Barely remember them.

  8. Yeah Ragnarok is really good. I meant the original Thor which follows a similar plot to several other superhero movies.

  9. gotg and thor rag are great since they are huge on humor. and then the meeting of the two in avengers endgame. hilarious dialogue. the only serious marvel movie that stood out for me was capt america winter soldier.

  10. I could never get into the Captain America movies. The first one was just as boring as Black Panther. I've seen parts of the others on cable but they seemed just as dull as the first one.

  11. The Mighty Ducks

What a great movie that was kind of crappy. I honestly can't tell if Emilio Estevez can act or not.

  12. Wonder Woman 7.5/10
This was one of the few recent superhero movies I've actually thought was pretty good. There were some corny moments at times, particularly a terrible comic relief character I wish was edited out of the movie, but overall this was a really impressive representation of Wonder Woman. I was curious to see how well various aspects of the WW character had aged, and I thought they nailed delaying fully introducing her beginning to act as a superhero until she charged towards the German military on the battlefield in the full Wonder Woman outfit. Gadot has got the accent tamed down to the point that I can almost always understand what she's saying now. In earlier movies I noticed the accent more than the content of her lines much of the time. I thought the one-on-one fights with the superpower elements could have been a bit better, and the special effects at the end were pretty bad, but the action sequences against the German soldiers were impressive. I also really enjoyed the unique aspect of the WW character craving so much to be a protector and defender of the world training and studying relentlessly and charging towards danger rather than the typical brooding "I didn't ask for this burden" attitude of most superheroes. I also like that instead of just being so absurdly powerful that bullets just bounce off of her like Superman, part of her combat prowess comes from utilization of all that training since childhood combined with her magic weapons and powers. I believe a sequel is planned. I'll probably see it in a theater this time.

  13. I think the standalone movies on the DC side are better than the ones on the Marvel side. The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman were better IMO than just about anything Marvel. Where DC falls down is when they try to do event movies with multiple heroes and villains. Marvel does that kind of thing well, but it always turns into a trainwreck with DC.

  14. Batman and Wonder Women are good but Marvel had some good stand alone movies too. Deadpool, Blade, Login, The Amazing Spider-man, Thor Ragnarok, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Spider-Man Homecoming.

  15. I loved that Login movie. the best part was when he had to do the captcha quizzes

  16. I’ll never forget the climactic final battle in Login when Login forgot his password and had to enter the name of his favorite pet.

  17. I should also note regarding my complaining about the bad special effects that I saw Wonder Woman after Alita. No special effects look good compared to that.

I just decided to buy Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, and an inexpensive 4K Blu-ray player (Sony UBP-X700), something I'd already been shopping around for anyway but now have enough of a reason to buy. I wanted one with good picture quality and Dolby Vision for under $200; this meets those criteria. All together the player and both disks were under $250 total. It seems silly to have an OLED sitting in my living room yet being too stingy to pay $200 for a decent 4K disk player.

  18. Brexit

This plays like a comedy but it was extremely interesting to watch. Basically shows how incompetent politicians can hire extremely smart people to target and motivate exact demographics via social networks. It almost seems like a successful trial run before the 2016 Presidential election as they both played out exactly the same.

Facts don't matter. Emotions do. If you can target confirmation biases via targeted ads and get them out to vote... By giving disillusioned people an option or even the illusion of choice, you can take down entire elections. Very cool stuff.

    8/10

  19. Captain Marvel

Better than expected. Better than Login but not as good Spider-Man. 8/10

  20. I hear they’re making a Login 2 where Login logs in using facial recognition. It sounds epic.
